Hi all,

Well I took the plunge last week and bought a 2005 320 CDI, the one with the 7 speed box.
Its done 70K and I noticed it hadn't had a gearbox oil service in its history. Consequently, I took it to a specialist in Moseley, Brimingham a few days ago. They changed the oil in the sump but didn't change the oil in the torque convertor.....the mechanic said it didn't have a drain plug! However, I've subsequently found an article that suggests otherwise:-

I went to another specialist in Perry Barr, Birmingham who seemed a little more knowledgeable but didn't think

that they had changed the oil on the 7G-tronic box. One mechanic at Andrew Gayle (Smetwick,Birmingham) however, seemed very knowledgeable about the procedure involved, the price quoted was £250 +vat....ouch, about the same as a main dealer.
Does anyone know of a specialist ideally in the Midlands area that's familiar with the procedure involved, many thanks?

Also, I need to get a spare key. I've been quoted a very reasonable £220 ...... I can buy a new computer for that sort of money !! Can I assume even specialst locksmiths can NOT reproduce a Merc key ?

Why not give Jay a call jaymanek. He's in midlands and is a member here. As for key. Only Mercedes can issue it.
Another thought. If prices are similar to main dealer then why not go to a main dealer. :)

Yes, many thanks for that. I think I'll take a visit to Mercland...any excuse to have a play with the new car ;-)

Phone around main dealers, I called Beaconsfield and was told £350 +VAT, then called Guildford as I was in the area and got quoted £220+VAT for a gearbox oil change.

I need mine done, the car is approaching 40k soon...

Changing the oil on a 7G box is a little more of a faff due to there being no dipsticks but the rest of the procedure is very similar to the old boxes.

Thanks for your replies guys.
It was a pleasure meeting with you earlier Jay.
