CL203 2.1 CDI
Hi there,

I am new to this forum and also to MB ownership!

I have recently purchased a 2007 C class coupe 220 CDI and while driving I notice the car had gone into limp mode with no warning lights on at all.

I had a friend read codes with his Delphi and he found the following:

2509 heater booster control module
2632 charge pressure regulation
2359 boost pressure: high pressure

The car doesn't always limp but I notice if I go into reverse and not drive from cold it nearly always limps.

I have read in various places that these engines suffer issues with turbo actuators. Does this seem like this could be the culprit or is there something else going on?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Hi and welcome to the forum.

We had this issue with our 2005 C220 CDI (same engine) and I took it to our local MB Specialist.

Unfortunately it's one of those problems where there isn't an exact answer as the ECU fault codes do not point out exactly what the issue is. It could be a split air pipe or the inlet vanes jammed up due to gunk as the obvious things.

I would suggest you take the car to an MB Speacialist and get the live data checked on STAR diagnostic machine for the following as minimum:
- Inlet port motors
- EGR Valve
- Turbo Actuator
- Injectors
- MAF Sensor

All the above should be functioning correctly as these are the general culprits for this issue. If all are clear then it's a case of further diagnosis to check for split air pipe for example.

Are you getting a light on in the dash when the problem occurs?

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

I'm not getting a light on the dash and it doesn't do it all the time. It seems to be more frequent from cold start with the cold weather.

I have a friend of a friend who is an MB fcommercial vehicles field tech, I will get him to plug in and check those on his system and hopefully he finds an answer.

Thanks again.

Please keep us updated on your findings...

You mentioned it occurs more frequently on cold starts... I was in a rush once and put the foot down fast and the engine felt as it was choking and then went into the 'hidden' limp mode - normally the engine will perform a lag then the turbo kicks in instantly (when correct operating conditions are reached). After some research it appears the ECU doesn't let the turbo perform full power until certain oil pressure is reached. Maybe flooring the car on cold start especially is not a good idea. If you have a light right foot then ignore this :)

This is possible as when I pulled out of my work car park it was onto a main road and I might have accelerated hard.

Thanks

Helo Dave88, how do you sort the problem on the end, I have the same errors as you, I would appreciate your reply.
Thank you , John
