w203 engine fan problems

when should the engine fan come on i have not heard or seen it come on had this car for only two months but have been on long motorway runs it seems to be running at about 85 degrees on the temperature gauge in the car
any help please

85 c is correct running temperature.
I must admit I have never seen my fan come on , it might if you are stuck idling in traffic or just leaving your car idling on the drive for a while .

Engines don't get that hot on motorway driving due to increased air flow through the rad.

The fan will run at idle if the climate is on.
