Hi Guys:

I have got W203 C180, last week engine light came on. so i took the car to local garage coz there is no MB garage around for initial checkup as they connected the scaner, light went off straight away. [I think he did reset the memory]
But day before yesterday it come back on again as this time i got the code:

P2031 Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

Afterwards i rang MB bedford for the parts and mentioned the problem, they told me that there are two oxygen sensor in this model upstream and the downstream and given the price for each but did not mention which one i need to replace.

Guys could you plz share some thoughts....thanks

hi there it would be the upstreem, which year c class have you got? as it could be another issue, you hay have oil in your harness and that could be costly if the problem with the sensor is linked to oil in the loom.

Sensor 2 is the back one ie downstream surely?

Sensor 2 removed from a 01 Bora a couple of weeks ago by yours truly, which was the back one.

Check for oil in the loom as this is a common failure.

I was quoted £173 for the front sensor and £156 for the rear for my car from MB. Thinking of trying the ebay alternative at £15, guaranteed for 12 months. Members views would be most welcome.

Did you get the code?

Did you get the code?
The part Nos are as follows:- A0015400617 before CAT and A0015404717 after. Not sure if same on your car. The fault code on my car was P0130. There seems to be only one O2 sensor seller on ebay who covers most cars. I just put O2 sensor in search box on ebay. I emailed him to be sure that his sensor would fit my car.

Removed gearbox plastic cover to expose sensor connector, looked dry until i pulled apart and found it full of oil. Cleaned with brake cleaner and fitted lucar crimp connectors upstream of socket in the hope that this will stop the oil from travelling to the socket. Will the ecu also be contaminated with oil ?

You really need a new loom.
