Dear Guys, I've done a recall mounths ago (as soon I bought my car as used, it's a W203 270 cdi year 2003) to update the software of the oil level control device.

Always the indication was ok, 3000 km ago I changed by myself the oil, level checked and was OK, yesterday I cheched the level via the on board computer, it said to add 1.5 liter to reach the oil max level, returning at home (done more than 100km) I checked again and the indication was right!!

In any case I added 0.5 liters.

Further, thanks to our great forum I found out the secret menù, to better verify oil level. Actually level, with engine off after a night, is 5.7l, mine as sain is a 2700cc engine.

My question is, how correct is the on board oil level computer?

thanks a lot

Marco:)

 nothing

please could someone confirm me at least that this is a commonproble (I mean the on board computer very low accuracy);)
thanks so much:)

I have a C270 too (late 2004, facelift version).

Mine never showed more than 6.2L (holds 6.5L of course). Before service it went as low as 5.3L but never asked for more oil.
I supplied my own oil for service and they used 6.5L, but the display still only showed 6.2L.
I added 0.1L at a time (because it is very bad to overfill) and took it up to 6.5L, where it has stayed for a few weeks now.

I always check when stone cold and the reading is the same each time, but of course I do now know how accurate that reading is!

Does the 6.5l include the oil retained in the filter and oil galleries? In other words if the reccomended amount to fill after an oil change is 6.5 litres then 6.3 litres in the sump after a drive is not unreasonable since it is quite possible that 300cc remains in the filter and passages. You may have overfilled it.
