My footbrake pull handle was loose, it would move over a inch in its housing before it released the footbrake. I had found a one inch broken spring in the drivers footwell and thought it had come from behind the pull handle in the dashboard. After reforming the broken end on the spring I gave it to my independant mercedes specialist who informed me that it goes near the foot pedal which pull the cable hense takes up the slack on the footbrake pull handle.
I had searched all of the web for the answer and found the problem several times, all stating that you should get behind the dash and try to refit the spring to the handle, How wrong. Vollar! Now it works just fine.
