Car
C270CDi Estate (late 2004 facelift model) - Bought 2005, Sold 2022.
Noticed the car (sat south facing and little used) had the whole light sensor assembly hanging down.

As far as I can tell the sensor is separate (as in, not clipped to) to the frame attached to the screen that the trim snaps on to, but both had fallen off.

Separated it all (right fiddly behind the mirror) and the gel of the sensor seems to hold it in place OK.

Has anyone reattached the frame? As best I can gather these normally come ready attached to the screen.

I must be glued back every time windscreen is changed, ask your local windscreen specialist what they use (or ask them to do it).

I think, although I'm not sure, that new screens come with the frame already attached.

The sensor on its own has stayed in place all day, despite its gel layer not being very sticky. I might leave it as is - it's not noticeable behind the hefty rear view mirror.

No it does not. Screen has 'window' for sensor, thats only difference.

Oh - fair enough, thanks. I know the sensor isn't there - there's lots of discussion about some fitters not using a new gel pad - but I'd got the impression that the trim frame was in place.

I wouldn't mind a new screen anyway, but it's never been changed and I'm nervous about them messing around with plastic trim etc that's coming up for 17yrs old.
