Hi -I thought I'd share a bizzare fix to a common problem with the W203 - maybe other models as well.
Recently I purchased a 06 c230 from auction -and it had numerous faults I knew about which I'm working through.
Today I thought I'd tackle the morror movement concern.
the mirrors will not fold out or in, and the selector switch for left/right appeared to do nothing. I could only adjust left mirror even when switch was set for the right?????
Having read numerous threads RE mirror movement I decided to take the switch apart and have a dig about.
All the contacts and soldered joints appeared to be clean and free from corrosion, but then I noticed an unsoldered joint. If you take the assembly apart - the mirror movement assembly is connected to the light switch assembly by a 5 or 6 way ribbon cable. One of the ribbon cores was loose in it's little hole in the PCB. Not a dry joint - just not soldered in.
I thought it strange not to be connected - why was it even there if not required??
I traced the tracks around both assembly circuit boards, and sure enough it was connected to other components around the boards - and eventually terminating at pin #2.
So quick blob of solder later I connected it all up and tested - hey presto - fully functioning switch module.
Its got me beat how it passed inspection - or even why previous owners never replaced it???
But lovely warm feeling of fixing a fault without costing a penny.
