Hi -I thought I'd share a bizzare fix to a common problem with the W203 - maybe other models as well.
Recently I purchased a 06 c230 from auction -and it had numerous faults I knew about which I'm working through.
Today I thought I'd tackle the morror movement concern.
the mirrors will not fold out or in, and the selector switch for left/right appeared to do nothing. I could only adjust left mirror even when switch was set for the right?????
Having read numerous threads RE mirror movement I decided to take the switch apart and have a dig about.
All the contacts and soldered joints appeared to be clean and free from corrosion, but then I noticed an unsoldered joint. If you take the assembly apart - the mirror movement assembly is connected to the light switch assembly by a 5 or 6 way ribbon cable. One of the ribbon cores was loose in it's little hole in the PCB. Not a dry joint - just not soldered in.
I thought it strange not to be connected - why was it even there if not required??
I traced the tracks around both assembly circuit boards, and sure enough it was connected to other components around the boards - and eventually terminating at pin #2.
So quick blob of solder later I connected it all up and tested - hey presto - fully functioning switch module.
Its got me beat how it passed inspection - or even why previous owners never replaced it???
But lovely warm feeling of fixing a fault without costing a penny.

Crazy that never got fix or soldered in the first place.

Nothing like the feeling of fixing something like that without the £3000 bill from mercedes :)

How the car treating you so far i just recently brought same model.

I bought it from my local car auction place -a few dealers turned up their noses due to engine warning light and heavily stone chipped/poor repaired front bumper - so I bagged (I believe) a bargain.
the engine warning light - reset-reappeared for the CAT - both banks- below threshold or similar. But having a nose around engine bay - found MAF sensor heavily contaminated and also - 90' duct that connects MAF housing and throttle body - adrift probs allowing excess air into manifold - un metered by MAF sensor. - all cleaned and reconnected and so far , no warning lights, and seems a bit quicker.
The rear axle/subframe seemed to sway from side to side under heavy breaking - making car kind of fishtail around. - found both rear axle lower front "thrust" bars - or tie bars rusted through. easy enough fix with just the wheel off and for £20 a side - cheap enough too!!
I have a weird possible bearing noise from front - nearside wheel when turning right - kind of like sticking a lolly stick in your bike spokes type noise - I suspect bearings - but thats another day.
Also front anti roll bar bushings appear oval - worn - £12 a pair - arriving tomorrow.
Other than that - its seems to have been very well maintained according to service record and receipts - including 7G gearbox flush x2.
Will keep me happy over the winter!!
