Can anybody help.. I've got a merc 1.6 blue eff sport I bought 10 days ago.. I filled up the tank approx £69 and I've returned a shocking 18.6 mpg and achieved 150 miles on half a tank. I haven't driven it rough etc just smooth gear changes at low revs... If this is the fuel consumption then I know I can't afford to run this car.. A little concerned too on what to.. It's got a full merc service history. 1 owner and mint condition so I'm a little puzzled at the consumption. Can anybody help... I am wishing now I'd bought the diesel auto

have you done a refill yet? you may not have used half a tank only way to really check is to fill up till fuel pump shuts off and then refill to see how much you have used?
But anywhere near 18mpg is shocking if accurate?
you could run a 4-5L engine at that consumption?
Fuelly says ave is 28.5mpg

Something's defo wrong there. I have the 2011 1.8 w204 estate blue efficiency. This is essentially the same engine as in yours and with a half heavy right foot going to work on mixture of a-roads/ town roads I average 36. My best is 42mpg on a run to London and back. I was actually quite impressed when I bought it that it was that good. My lowest on a bunch of short runs was 31mpg. I get 450 miles to a tank minimum and costs me £55 to fill currently!

If its got full MB service history and all the services have been carried out as scheduled with all the serviceable items replaced as required, then I presume all the plugs, filters and fluids etc are up to date. Maybe get the car diagnosed on a STAR machine by MB Dealership or a good reputable MB Independent/Specialist. Also, do a general check-up for things such as leaks (under car and in engine bay), fumes in interior, engine behavior at idle and different loads and any visible gas/smoke from exhaust etc... Any warning lights etc...

18mpg is slightly above what I get in my 1998 320 petrol.

Hi guys
Yes filled it up at £68 petrol unleaded.. Full tank got approx 350 out of it but no motorway runs.. I'm driving down from leeds to Brighton on Tuesday so I'm hoping I get 40-45mpg going steady

I think it's possibly that for local town driving the cars shocking mpg is 18.1 approx.

Will post on my return and see what the fuel economy is like on my 600 mile round trip

At least the tank isn't too much to fill up and at 450 miles for £60-65 I'd be happy at that

The most I can get into my C180 CGI tank is £60 with petrol at 1.03 here. That's from the first warning light.. On this with mixed motoring I get 460ish miles. Mixture of town and a-roads this week I got 35mpg real term although the trip computer reckons 37. IMO 18mpg no matter where your driving in this car is not right. Lowest iv ever got on short runs and a heavy right foot was 27mpg. HTH
