Could have sworn that I was reading a thread about Audio Units, must be getting old ! 🤔

It was originally it migrated to something else for good reason.... With forums there is always someone who thinks they are funny and clever, fetch nothing to the table but just can't resist to say something completely pointless just to emit some gas 🤔

Well done that man 🥳

Well.... The head unit turned up this morning... Well packed, No additional costs.

I also installed it today all went well took me about 2hrs, I noticed whilst fitting that there was a 3.5mm input and output cable within the loom... I feared this might be the case.

Upon testing I discovered that the audio output was / is very low... when playing music or youtube through the head unit To the point that I have to have it turned up to flat out and its still not loud enough.... If I switch over to the radio within the OEM unit its double the volume...

I'm guessing that I'm going to need some sort of inline amplifier to increase the volume.

Had I known this before buying I seriously would have had to have good think if I wanted it or not.

I'd try logging a support call with Erisin first.

The unit has gone back to Erisin today for full refund - I have to say that the experience in dealing with Erisin was shocking - The smoke screen of having a UK service centre and a .co.uk domain name caught me out..... Not to mention the cost which was formulated around me selecting dispatch from UK... It turned out to be dispatched from Germany and their excuse they ran out of stock in the UK.... Yet their website continued to state to the viewer that they still had 1999 pieces in the UK warehouse!

The product they sent me was simply not fit for purpose... I had to contact PayPal to get them to step in as Erisin were sending repeat emails 'kissing ****' stating we'll extend your warranty.... Their attempts to address the main quirks and annoyances with the device were designed as polite 'go away' measure. Add in the time difference between the UK and China it would take 24hr in-between emails to hear back! Very frustrating especially after waiting for the response only for it to be written in broken English with very silly repetitive advice... Advice for issues which disregarded the fact that I had already taken the time to explain to them what I had done already to circumnavigate the issues.

The screen fitted nicely into the dashboard and looked the part, sadly the audio output was terrible as it was utilising the car's AUX channel via a 3.5mm jack plug and socket within their loom. Each time the device started the time would revert back to 12:00 this is despite me telling the device to use cell network to adjust automatically. There was also a situation of the sound settings in Android resetting each time the ignition was turned off meaning you'd have to get back to those settings to drag the audio output back up to max which is less than ideal. It has to do with the lack of a permanent live. The screen stayed on at all times whilst the ignition was on irrespective of if you wanted it on or not. The dimming feature did not work on their android skin and when you dug deeper into the Android 13 settings again they took little to no effect. Altering the car's brightness also had no impact what so ever. In the end I had to minimise the Car play app and then set a screen saver within Android 13, the only option was a black screen with the time in the centre which was like a bright alarm clock LCD that keeps you awake at night! Very distracting.

The display for RPM and MPH/KPH was like something a 16 year old would have designed it was laggy and embarrassingly bad!

The internet fell over regular so listening to TuneIn radio was a nightmare and a lottery if it would work. If you wanted to listen to say Spotify via Car Play the device would only connect via Blutooth, the wired option did not work at all, and each time it connected via Blutooth the internet would get disconnected. There was a decent amount of input lag at play too and the device locked up several times!

I added a 3rd party screen dimmer app to try take away the glare of the Always on screen for night time driving, but that was limited and not ideal especially when you had to open the app each time to switch it on. I also tried a volume booster which worked but was not consistent and again each time you switched the ignition on you'd have to go open the app and re-set it. The built in DSP was dogshite!

If I had to sum this up, I'd say that they have 80% of their R&D done well in respect of fitment, however in respect of functionality it was far from great to such extent that I would say they need to go back to the drawing board and redesign their Android skin and work on how it interacts with the Android OS.

Every time I got in the car it was a drama and potch, despite now not having Car Play it's a major relief that I don't have a 10.25" screen glaring at me enticing me to use it only to find it full of bugs! And me ending up either spending an age before setting off or having to pull in mid journey to potch with it to get something to work, if at all. It was frustrating as hell when it didn't work, I would just want to switch it off and forget about it but the screen was there constant in your face and not doing what it was meant to.

Lesson learnt, I now need to find a branded 2 din head unit and fit it lower down in the dash.... It's a shame there isn't anything that will retro fit in the location of the original tiny game boy sized screen behind the hood at the top of the dash....

Unless your 17 years of age and / or up for a constant battle in return for having a 10.25" screen on the dash I'd run for the hills! And I 100% would not recommend buying from Erisin. After my experience I'd rather hook up an older vinyl deck in the boot lol or use an old cassette player over using anything that they offer.
