Hi all.

I know there is an issue with aux port being very very low volume and there is firmware fix to fix it.

My question is if possible to update firmware of the radio/module outside of Mercedes dealer?
Reason for my question is that I was quoted 240 euros for above and I'm really not gonna pay.
Dealer insist this is "diagnostic" visit and this is one hour labour and that is the price.

Any help welcomed.

Firmware updates require the use of genuine STAR with active subscription. Franchised dealers will obviously have this.

However, an independent specialist can purchase the kit (and subscription) from MB, and many do.

Try independent MB specialists in your area, and also firms who retrofit factory options, or sound systems, and specialise in MB, they are likely to have the necessary equipment to carry out firmware updates.

Having said that, the kit isn't cheap, and most independent specialist who have it, will charge a fee for this, which, while cheaper than the dealer, will still not be cheap.

Also, you don't say if your W204 is:

Pre-facelift (2007-2010) with COMAND NTG4
Pre-facelift (2007-2010) with Audio20 NTG4
Facelift (2011-2014) with COMAND NTG4.5
Facelift (2011-2014) with Audio20 NTG4.5

Hey Mark
I have no clue how to find out what version I have.
It is w204 from January 2008 so prelift.

I took some pic from diagnostic mode hope it could help.

You have Audio20 NTG4, with the optional Navigation 20 navigation module.

Thanks!

So it is possible to upgrade f/w on Audio 20?
Most of the post and info elsewhere talks about NTG

Tom

Yes, it possible, but not DIY, because it requires MB STAR diagnostic computer, which means that you'll need to take the car to a dealer or to an independent MB specialist.

You can, however, update the navigation maps yourself using USB drive, I believe that the latest version was 2015.

Don't have maps.
I'll check around for independent shop before forking out 200+ euro to car dealer.
Or I'll put an amplifier between aux and bt module to up audio volume.
