W204 C Class
I'm frantically trying to troubleshoot a front end suspension/steering issue that's ruining the drive of my W204 (face lift) C220 CDi.

At any speed over 50mph ish the ride feels floaty and un-precise.

Small holes, bumps etc. seem to upset the steering and it feels very light.

So far, I've had the tracking checked, new front Michelin Pilot Sport tyres, near side lower control arm replaced, visual inspection of front suspension components and the tracking checked again.

I've read in a few places that many Mercedes of this vintage (and earlier) have 'steering dampers' that a prone to wear early.

I'm struggling to confirm weather or not the face lift W204 does in fact have one?

This car has had fairly light usage @ 60K miles.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcone SiYes.

I don't know if your car has a steering damper, though your post brought back some memories, I had a steering damper on an Astra back in the eighties....

I think you need to see a good chassis tuning specialist. Depending on where you are in the UK, I suggest that you go and see Tony Bones at Blackboots aka Wheels In Motion in Chesham:

Can any one please provide confirmation if the W204 has a steering damper or not?

Cheers

This might help,

I beleive the W204 has speed sensitive steering, it may be a fault with that part of the system as it should get heavier with speed rather than lighter. If its not getting heavier then it could be the system isnt recognising the speed or isnt adjusting it properly and its feeling light.

Or my other thought is there is something aerodynamic causing some lift at the hgiher speed? Do you have any big heavy things in the boot?
Just a thought.
