    Hi Guys,

As above, a C class 204 that locks/unlocks the door's, but when you put the key in the ignition there is no sound of electronic ulnocking of the steering column and you cant turn the key?

    any ideas?

Have not tried the spare key as it isn't available to hand.

could it be a key fault, or somthing to do with the electronic barrel not recognising the key i.e. lost its programmed signal etc?

I have no idea, but as no one seems to be around to offer any qualified advice... have you checked the fuses ?

Always a good starting point with electrical problems ...

Key could be broken… was it dropped recently… the spare key will prove whether your current key is faulty… if your spare works ok then your current key is faulty.

You need to check with the spare key but if the same symptoms are present it suggests that the problem lies with the ignition switch assembly.

I may have misunderstood the symptoms, but it sounds like the classic of the gearbox not fully into Park. Shift the gears around a bit and return to Park then try it. Alternatively it could be that the steering lock has come on in a position that puts a slight strain on it and is preventing the key from turning. Wriggle the steering a bit and try again. Both simple solutions to a surprisingly common problem.

    spare key doesnt work either!

when its inserted you can hear a faint ticking sound so it seems to be wanting to do somthing.

i also noticed the interior lights when manually pressed doesnt come on.

They do however come on when you lock/unlock using the fob. i'm wondering if it is a fuse or electrical problem.

    fuses look to be ok.

Check that you have at least 12v at the battery first, if so then probably the EIS at fault.
Remove the drivers dash undertray, un screw and drop down the EIS then tap it with a screwdriver while trying to turn the key in it. Sometimes they spring into life, but will need replacing at a dealer :thumb:
