I have a 62 plate w204 c220 cdi, 3 months ago I had a few problems starting then Friday failed to start then started eventually, had intermittent problem over Saturday morning, by Saturday night stranded in driveway non start, battery fine, key turning to crank position and normal dash lights on, spent Sunday gathering info and testing various points with a multimeter, relays fuses etc and could not pin down fault. Went down pub Sunday night to forget about bloody car, Monday I was off work and my son came around to assist me.
On starting to go over things again I had my son turn key as I leant on car over engine and fuse box and it started up, I switched off and it would not fire again, after working out what hand was where when it fired, I found that I could turn the key to start and walk around car and the second I touched the drivers side conector cable to the engine Ecu( under plastic cover on top of engine) it fired up, I then tried this many times and pin pointed it to the ecu plug( Don’t mess with ecu plugs or cables unless you are competent) I then carefully Worked conector open and closed a couple of times and now can not get it to fail, all conectors and pins looked good. Maybe in time I might get a dodgy joint in Ecu or plug that might need a planned repair,
but as for now I am a happy mb driver again. Thought I should post As it might not be an isolated problem to my car. I believe the cause of my problem is an engine vibration on cold start up and have a question has anyone else had chafing of underside of engine cover on ecu conectors etc ?
