Hi,
I'd appreciate any ideas on a problem with my 2008 W204 C320 CDI with 110,000 miles on the clock.
At the last service I was advised by the Mercedes specialist I have been using for the last couple of years that the Engine Management light was due to a faulty glow plug control unit and faulty glow plugs 1 and 6. This made sense as I had difficulty starting the car on cold winter mornings and had been getting a puff of white smoke. They went ahead and replaced these.
On driving the car home after the work had been carried out the engine management light appeared again however it was a Friday afternoon and the garage had closed so could not return or call.
I subsequently tried to start the car later that evening and the car initially started fine however 10 seconds or so after ignition the engine began to surge (with the rpm indicator fluctuating) and vibrate at idle and then it cut out. I restarted and the surges occurred again for a few seconds but then the car kept running and I drove it down the road and noticed a lack of power at which point I returned home.
I have returned the vehicle to the garage and they have said that the work they carried out on the glow plugs and control unit seems to be intact and that they can't find a problem with the specific work they carried out on Friday. They also said the new problem seems to be arising from the EGR (however the EGR physically, looks fine) and that they need to run further diagnostics to find out whats happening and if the ECU is at fault instead.
I would like to gauge ideas if these two issues are known to be connected and if its reasonable to put down these new symptoms and seemingly new fault down to coincidence so soon after the glow plugs and control unit were changed. I do have confidence in the garage as they have done some good work for me in the past but would just like to know if anyone has encountered something similar before.
Would greatly appreciate some second opinions/ideas on this.
Many thanks.
