W204 C320cdi Comand NTG4 HDD image help

Purchased a new 2.5 hdd and tried various ways but no luck still.

Connected the original comand hard drive to my pc to see if can find anything out about it.

Hdd is recognised in bios, boot into DOS and Fdisk say no drive connected so not valid in drive in DOS.
I then tried LINUX boot disk and drive not accessible under Linux.

I obtained a couple of self boot HDD utils. It is recognised as NTFS format and has no active partions, I then checked my new drive to ensure it was in NTFS and no active partions.

I put the new drive in the comand and it would activate as just stated no hdd connected. And tried to run update disc put just stated unreadable disc each time I tried.

I tried the new hdd formatted in NTFS, FAT32 and FAT16 and made partions non active and deleted each time and still no luck.

Think only option left is to purchase a comand based hdd as there must be something on the comand hdd that is required to operate the navi and allow updates to operate.

Will advise if this cures once I have a drive and installed, as I am concerned these drives are paired to the command and not interchangeable. But will see.

Many thanks all for the kind assistance :)

Hi,
Any update on this please as I'm having a slightly diffirent issue: no phone or voice command and the drive seems to be making some clicking like it was rebooting or having mechanical issues.
Thanks

Had to fit a used hard drive which i purchased off eBay and it cured the problem.
So the original hard drive must have failed.

thanks for the quick reply. how did you fit the new hard drive? does it require te star system or is it just a plug and play thing? can you post a quick how to, please. Thanks.
anothe question: was the phone working (audio) with the old drive?

Everything was a fine before i tried the map update that broke mine. But i had only had the car a couple of weeks so cannot be sure.

As for changing the hard drive it is very easy to do.
Once the head unit is removed from the car, just turn it upside down and the caddy is on the bottom, undue the 3x screws remove hard drive and pop new one in.

The hard drive must be one that has been removed from a Mercedes NTG4 head unit and them it just plugs in and works no need for star.

I tried a new 2.5 hard drive of eBay but the head unit just says no hdd installed, I also tried to format the drive in all manner with no luck.

After several weeks of messing about with the hard drive and having the car plug into star at dealer had no luck so just purchased the hard drive from eBay was not cheap but sorted my problem.

Have you done a head unit reset via the engineering mode. If not search for how to enter engineering mode on ntg4 as it has a master reset option in there. Worth a try first I think.

I did that. still no audio with phone, no linguatronic, no sdcard and no music copying to registrar. I read somewhere here that someone managed to put a new hard drive (80GB) in the comand.

quick question: does bluetooth or voice control require the hard drive to be installed ? Anybosy ready to do a test by removing the hard drive and testing these two functions please ?

I can answer your question no problem.
When I had all the trouble with mine I ran my command without the hard drive for two weeks while waiting for the drive I got off eBay to come.

With drive out everything functions except for no navi, no voice control and no music register.
Cd, radio and Bluetooth still function.

Have you had it on star yet. I did when mine went and the fault came up as MOST ring fault.

Did you made an image clone of this new hdd? I had same problem with the same car.
