W204 c63, remap and second cat delete 2022

Hi guys.

2014, w204 c63

I know, I know this has been talked about atleast once before .

I want to get 2nd de cat to make the car a little louder and few more pops on down shifts etc, I heard a car recently with this and resonator delete and I think I now have permanent hearing issues.. it was, loud..

So I enquired about the 2nd cat delete at a local garage to me that we use for our work vehicles (non merc specialist) but was just having a conversation about it in general and he said it would fail on MOT time?

A lot of people (probably over half of c63 owners) have had this done, has anyone ever had issues come MOT time?

As for remap, the car is frickin swift standard, people that have had this car mapped, is it well worth it? And anyone in the south west, Somerset area to recommend for remaps? I'll happily drive to Birmingham MSL if needs be, but if there is someone more local that is as reputable then happy days.

Again, sorry for bringing this up again, but it's 2022 and MOT testers get more and more strict on stuff every year and wondered if anyone has failed MOT this year but past previous years?

In theory it can fail an MOT as it doesn't have all the cats it left the factory with. However, it will pass the emissions test and it would take a jobsworth to know the secondary cat is missing and then fail it.

Your car may have been remapped already unless you've had it from new. It is totally worth it. The power flattens out above 5krpm as standard because the throttle is restricted and doesn't open more than about two thirds. This artificial restriction is holding back the engine's standard potential to keep it below an E63. A remap opens it up and you gain around 50-60hp at the top end, a bit lower down too but nothing like as much.

After a remap the car rips to the redline a bit like Honda VTEC and it's awesome. I'm sure at least one person will post saying how pointless it is (and you can bet they drive a boring car). You can really feel the difference and on the odd occasion you get to use it you'll be glad you did it.

Mine was done by Celtic Tuning who I believe can come to you and should cost about £400. Otherwise Avon Tuning are fairly close to you and I'd trust them to do it too.

I believe will need both primary and secondary cats deleted for pops, shot gun bangs and flames. The honeycomb in the CAT will not survive such abuse and is likely to collapse and risk travel downstream towards the resonator and muffler and likely to cause a block in the exhaust system itself especially around kinks and bottle neck areas. It's something to be aware of.

I have a resonator delete, it's not enough for my needs and will consider secondary CAT delete.

If available, consider 309 stainless steel? You will see hardly any surface corrosion but again its not 100 immune from it. 409 is industry standard and is absolutely fine to use though you will see some surface corrosion appearing after a good few years.

Funnily enough I was reading about this last night. The original pops and bang cars seem to be the turbo race cars of the 1980’s where extra fuel would be injected when lifting off to help anti-lag. So things like the Group B cars. I’m no expert but apparently this isn’t great for your engine as it can thin the oil, burn the exhaust valves and also damage the turbo which isn’t designed for those temps. Id research it a lot if it was me, given how expensive AMGs are to fix! (Not that I’d personally want pops and bangs unless I was in a Gp B car!)

Thanks for the information pops and bangs really isn't my thing, I recently was driving behind a suburu going through the town centre revving the crap out of his car and then letting it bang like ww3 scaring all the kids, my thought was "what a absolute...... fool?" To be Polite.

A loud v8 how ever, is my thing, I think 80% of the adult population loves the sound of a good v8, that's pretty much the reason why I bought the c63, free C class coupe, but paid 30k for an absolute gem of an engine.

All I want is a few more pops on downshift, the same as the standard tone but a bit more pronounced, and the map, for making the car feeling better and more free rather than outright power.

Acid at msl, should be able to help with your tuning needs, from mild, moderate to extravaganza.

For longevity, a resonator and secondary CAT delete would be more than enough and they should be able to tickle the tuning a bit to give a bit more crackle and also a speed limiter delete
