Having recently purchased my C63 (my first merc) it is now due for a Service A. I understand that this is the more routine fluids and filter change. How much should I be expecting to pay at a main dealer or Indy?

Secondly, any ideas of good independent garages in the SW London / Surrey area?

How old is your c63?
That will determine the work requirements- brake fluid, air & pollen filters, pano roof lube, ATF change, spark plugs etc

it's a 2012 C63 estate. Will check the link out, I did do a search before I posted but couldn't find any decent results, thanks for sharing.

Had mine done at a MB approved Indy and cost £200 with me supplying Shell Helix Ultra 10 ltrs

That's a great price. Which garage did you use?

How far are you from PCS, Horndean , Portsmouth or MBS , Southampton . Both well respected Indys .
I would guess your servicing gets cheaper the further from London you go

Portsmouth is an hour away so not terrible, Southampton is 1.5 hours a way will give them a call tomorrow for quotes.

As above.

Olly at PCS Horndean is highly recommended indie :thumb:

That said, use the link provided by greenmamslk above to check on the MB Electronic Service Sheet (ESS Light) what is actually due for your car.

Then, walk into your nearest dealer with your V5C and photo ID and ask them for a printout of the Digital Service Book (after the lockdown ends on 2nd Dec).

This will tell you what the car needs doing.

If all it is due is the basic Service A, then an indie would be your best bet.

If, however, the car is due additional items (air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, ATF, brake fluid), then a fixed cost MB Service Care Plan might be a better option. In that case, I would recommend MB Brooklands.

Indy prices are still much cheaper than a service plan. All that extra stuff costs a bomb through Mercedes but it's all simple and not specialist. For example, an air filter is circa £70 through Mercedes or £20 and 5 minutes yourself.

Correct re the air filter. But when it comes to ATF, spark plugs (on a V8), and brake fluid change - if due - these aren't simple DIY jobs. All doable, granted, but you need the space, the tools, and the expertise, which not every DIYer will have.

Two oem c63 204 air filters £37 from MB not £70

Indies are not always better value.

I was of the believing the Mobile 1 oil or the MB brand oil was really only recommend for the M156. I appreciate that others have used different brands but I was of the assumption the MB was regarded as the most efficient.

I wasn't suggesting that you have to go DIY to save, but if you do you obviously save even more. I was referring to parts and labour.

I know what's involved in ATF, plugs and brake fluid change. These are run of the mill jobs and there's nothing special about doing it on a C63. Yes, you need a code reader to get the gearbox fluid temperature right but every garage has one.

Some cars require more difficult jobs on some service intervals, like the lifter adjustment on a BMW S54. The C63 just has a series of glorified oil changes, one of the reasons it's quite easy to own for a performance car.

Well, for one thing, the C63 has double the spark plugs that my C180 has.....

What's your point, they're £8 each so hardly a big deal and still cheap for a performance car.

rather more than £8..and the indy's labour will be twice as much as for a a 4 pot because it is twice the work..

That is not supported by the facts

For my last service, my local indy quoted c£650...under the service plan the same work was £456 and next year will be £360, including an ATF
