Hi guys

Just purchased a 2014 c63 coupe.

Only covered 40k miles, last service was done by specialist all other main dealer, I'm going to stick with specialist I think, that's if I can find a good one local.

So I live in taunton, there is a great main dealer here but i know its common knowledge these places charge through the nose, so is there any mercedes specialists in the area?

Thanks guys

Congratulations on your new car.

Before dismissing the main dealer based upon what you think the cost might be, ask them for a price for the service and all additional items due on your next services. Ask them for a breakdown so you know how much each item costs.

Armed with this information you know for sure what the cost is, and can then compare the compare the value of using independent specialists. Also find out how much a service plan costs, as you may be surprised on both fronts.

I’ve never used them however Avantgarde Automotive in Bristol are well regarded, so I’d give them a call to and ask for like-life-like pricing for your next service - remember to ask for a breakdown of costs to enable fair comparison.

It wouldn’t be the first time that someone has concluded that garage X is much less expensive, but it didn’t include the same scope of work, ie the expensive items were excluded eg spark plugs, transmission fluid change, even brake fluid change.

and dont be shy in asking the main dealer for a discount

Thanks for your reply, I have been into taunton mercedes before and to be honest the service plan (around £50 a month or so) didn't seem un reasonable, but everyone's verdict on main dealers has made me conclude that going to a indy is going to be more reasonable without actually investigating my self, so fair play, I'll have to be the shapard here and not the sheep and do some digging my self to find the true extent of potential money savings.

Appreciate your time on the reply:)

Indies are at times more expensive than main dealers, see thread below i had my v8 amg main dealer serviced for £139

I would say that whether it’s a main dealer, a Mercedes specialist or a completely independent garage, go with whomever you trust and gives a balance of fair value and good service.

Depending upon where you are then that could be quite different, for some the best in their area will be a main dealer, for others a Mercedes specialist, and others an independent “village” garage.

That's a fair comment, there is a garage I've used for years and I trust, but didn't know if taking my car to a non specialist would have adverse effects on the next owner, but I guess that's irrelevant for now, as my plan is to not let go of this car and keep it as my weekend baby, when it needs major repairs I'll just simply park it up under the cover and wait until the bank balance can easily swallow a big hit. Unless of course I can swallow the chunk immediately.

To be honest all of this is just me waying up options and trying to see if there is another garage that everyone raves about near me that's known to be cheaper\better value for money than the main dealer, also it gives me the opportunity to meet some people with c63s near me that can share a interest of mine (no homo)

Hi Chris63,
Did you manage to find a Mercedes specialist in the Taunton / West Somerset area ?
I'd be grateful for whatever knowledge you found.

Hello

I have been taking it to D&B in Bristol, extremely good garage, fair prices and extremely knowledgeable.

I haven't had any luck finding anyone more local than Bristol though unfortunately.

I assume you have a c63 too?

Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me.
I don't have anything as adventurous as a C63, but about to use M-B Taunton for a 29,000-mile service - my first time with them.
I do hear very good things about a mechanic in Galmington who's an ex-VW chap but does all makes of cars particularly German. My neighbour used him for his Merc and was very impressed. If I struggle with M-B Taunton then I will go to him in Galmington.
Good to know about D&B in Bristol though. Only an hour away, so not too bad.
Thanks.

Taunton mercedes would be my go to if my car was newer or had all previous work done by the dealers, but they quoted me £1400 (roughly) for a B service, when I went to D&B they done it for £300 plus they found a couple things wrong which racked up another 200 but still more than half the price, plus mercedes dealer would have charged more for the extra stuff.

There is TSR in bridgwater, a very good garage but they do more VW and Audi, haven't been there with my c63 but maybe worth a shout considered their just down the road?

Did D&B do exactly the same work that Mercedes quoted for, ie all additional items?

Mb quoted for plugs, b service and ATF service. I had the car serviced for £300 quid and ATF service for an additional £240 at D&B, the spark plugs didn't need changing, these were done 10k miles ago but wasn't updated on the merc database (got receipts and stuff)

So with spark plugs it would have been around 700-800 quid so half the price of main dealers more or less
