Hey! I'm new here, I have a w204 c220 Facelift from 2011 that I bought in May last year and I love it.

I recently went through some flood water a little too fast and it was deeper than expected... :(

Initially the front left parking light and indicator stopped working. Then the next day I got the 'Intelligent light system inoperative' message but that started working again with no issues since.

On a morning when I unlock the car the indicator flashes and the parking light comes on as it should but after maybe 10 seconds the parking light goes out (sometimes it does a little flash bright and dim then goes out) and the indicator doesnt work for the rest of the day. I'm assuming theres water somewhere... Any ideas on a fix or fault?

Thank you :)

I would say put it in rice but that might not work. I'd just leave it for a couple of days to dry to see if it gets any better or not. (only if the main lights still work obviously for safety)

Do you have a tow hitch and towing electrical connector on your car?

Thanks for the reply.
The headlight work, it's only an LED problem, thankfully.

I don't have a towing hitch...

I've been doing some research and I've noticed a box on the under side of the headlight, is this the LED driver, do you know?

Also, am I correct in saying that I'd have to remove the front bumper to remove the headlight?

I'm guessing you have the intelligent light system right?

I used to have a problem with my tow hitch electrical connector when it got moist where it would cause the indicator to not work properly in the whole car so only mentioned it as I had that problem.

From what I can see, I think you do have to remove the bumper as there are screws to the main lights are behind the bumper.
To remove the daytime running lights you don't have to remove the bumper though. Maybe if you can take them out and clean the connectors and let them dry somewhere warm for a few hours when you don't need the car. (remember to cover the connector on the car if you will leave it outside to prevent further damage)

Hopefully something like this can help

Unfortunately, it's not the DRL's that's the problem, it's the C LED in the headlight itself and the LED indicator.

I do have intelligent lighting system, which works fine.

I don't think I'll have a chance soon to take it to bits so I'll see if it dries out before then.

I've noticed that the clips for the grill are broken and the top part of the bumper isn't seated correctly so I think this has happened before but nothing has been done to stop it happening again, I think that means I don't need to buy a new headlight... Hopefully.

Hi
Normally when these faults occurs it's because water has got into the led control unit which is screwed to the lamp assembly. I would either leave the car running with as many lights on as you can and see if you can dry the light out with the heat from the bulbs or I'd advise removing the bumper and removing the light and then the led module and checking if any of the pins are green with water corrosion if so inspect the lamp very carefully for any sign of damage as this is more than likely where the water has got in fingers crossed as the headlamp units are quite expensive

I agree with @Jigglyjohnson , it seems like a good idea with the lights constantly running even when driving during the day.

Sorry, I thought you meant the DRL my bad.

Hi and welcome, Try posting a new thread in the 'electronics & audio' topic or searching for someone who has a similar problem.
If you post new, try to give as much detail about the problem as possible.

Take the headlight out remove the ballasts under the light clean any corrosion or moisture and clean the terminals re fit back onto the light make sure headlight is also clean and headlight connector, re fit everything you should be all good again

OK, update time.

Turns out the under side of the light is badly damaged, hence the water ingress. So, I need a new headlight...

Cheapest I've found is £500 without the ballast and ILS boxes...

Fun times.

OK guys, I need some more help...

So, I bought a headlight unit for £515, still no LED's (It's OK, I needed to replace the old one anyway) so I bought an ILS controller... however, the one I bought is A2189009103 which says its for W204... The one on the car is A2189009901 which says its for a W218!? I'm hesitant to just plug it in and try it because I've read somewhere that they can blow up the headlight if its not correct?

Please help! :(

So, the saga continues... I need to tap into the accumulated knowledge and experience of this community.

It went for its MOT on Thursday and failed on the light pattern. Basically, One headlight is on low beam and the other is on full beam and visa versa. I spoke to a local MB specialist and they said it probably needs programming... So I spoke to MB in York
and the guy said he's never heard of anything like that in his 35 years experience. He said that he has seen, with crash damaged cars the plugs have been wired wrong during the repair. Has anyone else experienced this or know where to start?

Does anyone have a wiring diagram or something?

It's booked in on Tuesday morning for diagnostic but I don't think it'll turn up anything.

If you have yellow and white wires (or yellow/tracer white/tracer) try swapping them.

Unfortunately, I don't
seem to have those colours, or at least not close enough for me to be confident enough to swap them. Here's a picture, any ideas? 20210516_134316.jpg

If that's the nearside plug, then yours appears to be wired the same as mine - although it's not easy to see with it plugged in and as there isn't much space for my big hands to get the plug out !
