C220 Cdi 2013 Executive SE Blue Efficiency
I have a Dec 2012 W204 C220 CDi Executive SE Blue Efficiency.

My problem is trivial but I have been unable to find a solution.

There is an instantaneous MPG meter together with a remaining range which displays on the speedometer, which only seems to go to 40 MPG. And there is a bar graph on the Audio 20 screen which shows historic fuel consumption. But everything over 50 MPG is sliced off. The graph scale goes higher, but the bars never go above 50. Consequently I have a meaningless graph with mostly identical results since a typical MPG figure is nearer to 60.

Is this a bug or a feature?

My Dec 2012 c class is exactly the same. I spoke to my dealer about it nothing after picking up the car and they said they thought there would be an update coming but as of yet I'm still not aware of one. I'm changing it for an e coupe with comnand later this month and I'm sure that it works correctly in that model so don't know why they can't sort it on c class.

I have a 2012 B180 with Audio 20 that has exact same pointless graph, I easily get into 60's on longer journeys, I think the Audio 20 was a bit of an afterthought, the Becker integration is a bit flaky in places too, I have seen newer models with grey rather than cream/brown screen design (new A class) and graph was better

Bug. Fixed ages ago on COMAND, dunno if its fixed on Audio-20 though (I assume it is, just don't know for sure).

Get the COMAND firmware updated

Cheers

Richard

OK, i've gone and checked now. TIPS document GI82.85-P-057167 dated 16/9/2013 (yes, 2 years ago) describes this problem for both COMAND and Audio-20.

Update the COMAND/Audio-20 using telematics DVD (and Star Diagnosis!!) (and the fix was available with 05/2013 for COMAND and 03/2013 for Audio-20)

So, if they had done the firmware updates as part of servicing .....

A follow up. I emailed Robinsons of Peterborough to ask them about updating the software. I got no reply. So I emailed Listers of Boston and got an immediate reply and an appointment to have it done under warranty without any strings attached like "wait till the next service".

They have now installed the software and full marks to them for that. I am still a bit disappointed though. It seems that all the software engineers have done is raise the chop-off value from 50 MPG to 80 MPG. Although this is better, it is still pretty weird because with an average MPG of about 60, many of the values need to go well over 80 because others are down in the tens. I would have made the graph self scale to the maximum of the fifteen values currently on display. Apparently Mercedes chose not to. The second disappointment is the bar under the total remaining range is still capped at 40; pretty useless! The warranty runs out next month so I guess that is the end of free upgrades.

Hello all - resurrecting an oldish thread.

I took possession of a 2013 w204 last week and noticed that my instantaneous MPG display also only goes up to 40mpg - but the overall trip computer tells me I'm getting more than that on single journeys.

Has there been an official fix or an update? Can I take my car in and get the firmware updated?

Cheers all.

Does anyone really study these bar graphs ?

Well, I did have my software updated, but I don't think I need have bothered. All that happened is that the old limit of 40 MPG got moved up to 60 MPG. Equally meaningless. I would have been better off complaining about the dry-rot on my tyre walls before my warranty ran out. Its too late now!

Yes. If car under warranty then they will do it. If not they will charge you. There are independents like Mercedes Retrofit Specialist - Comand.co.uk who have the necessary genuine/supported online Star Diagnosis and can also do this for you.

Thanks Richard. Do you know if there's a particular update or internal reference number that MB issued for this update? Don't want to go in there and be fobbed off.

Thanks.

Resurrecting an old thread here...

But I love to look at the instantaneous MPG bar when driving. I make it a mission to achieve the best economy possible - its like a game. A really sad game perhaps, but I'm hooked.

Anyway, if anyone is still interested - my local MB have quoted £99 to upgrade my old W204 using TIPS document GI82.85-P-057167 (as quoted by richard above). They say it will then show up to 80 MPG after the update.

My 2012 350 was the same, think it was at 40mpg like yours.

Can't remember how or what I was in there for anyway, but you can go into engineering menu on the ntg4.7 and change the max limit, also the clock type if I remember.

Mine now shows 80mpg on the bars..

I've just accessed the engineering menu but can't find the option. My car does not have Navigation so im wondering if its not the NTG4.7. I think its the Audio 20 spec so prob less sophisticated and does not have this feature. Was a great idea though and interesting for me to discover the engineering mode.

interesting, that's good to know. Any ideas what menu it was under before I go blindly looking?

It was 10 years ago so I had to go blindly looking for it...

How do you access the engineering menu?

on my W204 - you hold down three buttons simultaneously:
- The phone call hang up button (red phone icon)
- The number 1
- The Hash #
