Hi all.
Hope all is well.
Can I ask please.

The oil filter cap.

I hate using the chain tool, never used the belt type. to remove the cap.

Any of you folk know the size socket that fits.?. Sorry ..w204 c220 CDI.
Also will this same socket fit the w211 e220 CDI. & W205 again 220 CDI.

Thanks all
Catch you later.

I wouldn't buy the genuine Mercedes tool unless you have boxes of money lying around to waste, you can get a universal oil filter cap removal tool set from most motor factors, even ebay or amazon, they will have one that fits in the set and they work perfectly well. My cheap set has been fine for the last 5 years doing various cars as well as my own.

On my petrol W204 it's 27mm and I can't think why yours would be different. I use a short universal joint between the socket and a hand brace. The cover doesn't need to at all tight as the sealing is done by O rings. If you have a socket set, I don't see any earthly need for a special tool.

27mm ? for the oil filter cap ? Mines 75mm ...same on countless MB engines . A 75mm 'socket' can be classed as a 'special tool' even though it's available for about £10.

It's not really a socket , some are just made out of a bit of pressed 'tin' , others are cast ally.

Cool ... Thanks you lot. Thumbs up ..

Il check it out now later.

Thanks a lot.

I have the cast alloy Merc tool, think it was £20.00 No risk of it slipping like the presssed tin ones, it has two bolts that screw in from the sides to stop any slipping if you get a tight filter housing.

No question that mine is 27mm. The top of the plastic housing has a 27mm hex cast on to it. I don't know why MB would choose to do it differently on other engines with similar top mounted plastic oil filter housings but they obviously do so the OP ought to check in case the C220 is the same as yours.

I'm just happy I've got the easiest filter to change ever and I didn't have to buy a new tool.

Same as the socket on my C180k M271 petrol engine.
It's definitely a 27mm 6 point socket to undo it.
