Car
Mercedes C Class 250 CGI 2011 W204.
Hiya, apologies, got my first Mercedes this week and im new to all the details, so apologies if i miss anything important! Ive read through the other posts and even though there are similar issues i cannot seem to get any of the solutions to work.

I have a 2011 Mercedes C 250 CGI first registered in April 2011. It has the Command APS (which i think from reading other forum posts would be the NTG4 with the pop up screen). There doesnt seem to be an AUX port anywhere in the car, there is just a hole where others seem to have theirs. There is however the other port, which i think is MMI or whatever you call it.

I want to be able to play music via my phone (spotify) on my car. I thought it might just be the issue with this wire so purchased 2 from amazon, 1 ending in a port for a headphone jack, the other USB. I have tried both of them numerous times and the one with the headphones does nothing. The one with the USB end will charge my phone, but cannot make any music play. The 2 wires, in the end that plugs into the car, have the metal slithers in different positions (dont know if that makes a difference)

These are the two i have purchased

Ive tried to get them playing via AUX and Media Interface on the command console, no luck either way.

Any idea if im doing something wrong? Is a wire ive bought wrong, or do i need to buy a specific mercedes one from ebay or something?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Do let me know if ive missed any information or pictures of anything will help.

Thanks!

Bluetooth no good ?

Bluetooth doesnt seem to be an option. i can connect for the telephone, but nothing for music. I dont seem to have Bluetooth appear in the Audio menu either (i think the car might be too old for it)

Hit aux on the screen after playing music on the phone, it should come up with Bluetooth streaming

volume might be really low though

Thanks for the idea but no luck. Nothing seems to happen when i do this (just tried again). This might be a stupid question, but if my car was registered for the first time in April 2011, and there was a facelift thing that year. Could it be my car was built pre-facelift and so had different/less functionality?

I had a 2010 prefacelift with the static small screen and it worked on that, think it depends on other specced systems

The W204 pre-facelift had the NTG4 unit with the pop-up screen.

The W204 facelift had the NTG4.5 with the fixed screen in the dashboard.

NTG4.5 supports music streaming over Bluetooth.

So your car must be one of the very last pre-facelift with the NTG4 unit.

I believe that in order to get BT audio streaming on NTG4, you'll need to (a) update the firmware to latest version, and then (b) enable BT streaming in the Engineering Menu.

On another note... you gave the M271 engine... beyter get the timing gear checked (if not replaced already).

Thanks! That may well be what I need to look into. I'm not actually fussed about BT to be honest, I'd happily play via aux but my car didn't come with the media cable thing (and hasn't got a separate aux cord)

In theory, I should be able to play music without BT if I can source one of those mercedes cables with the headphone jack in though yea?

The dealer made a point of telling me its got a chain instead of a belt so there should be no issues. This sounds like something else though so I'll pop it into my mechanic. Thanks again

Google "M271 timing chain failure". It's a known issue with this engine, and it's actually the sprockets that fail (not the chain). The camcover should be removed and the camshaft sprocket wheels need to checked for wear.

On re-reading, you only just bought the car, and you bought it from a dealer, so any timing chain issues in the next 6 months should be automatically covered by the warranty under your consumer rights anyway. Hopefully there's nothing wrong with the car, but I would get the sprockets checked anyway.

Will get it checked, thanks!!

Seeing you are in Brighton... I'd give Comand UK in Lightwater a call regarding audio streaming for your NTG4, they will know what can be done (and have STAR and can upgrade the firmware if need be etc): Mercedes Parts Specialists
