W205 AMG compression problems.

Ok, My MB Stealer has now had my car over 5 weeks. The last time I heard anything from them, 3 weeks ago, the issue was with coil packs....

The car developed a miss fire and pluging in my OBD-II tool, it reported a miss fire on #2 and #4. When the MB mobile mechanic arrived his Xentry showed the same thing and after poking around in the engine bay for an hour, breaking off several plug clips, he determined it was the coil packs. Not that he had the new double type on board and even if he had, they need to be coded to the car in Germany.

The car was taken away on the Sunday. Roll to the following Tuesday when said Stealer calls to say they thought a software update would solve it. It hadn't so they had to order a special compression testing tool that would take 5 days...

Roll another 10 days, after I had called them, they spoke to my missus and the message I got was a faulty coil pack. Wasn't that diagnosed by the mobile mechanic! And why did it take so long to switch over some coil packs and clear the DTCs.

Anyway, it turns 6 weeks on Sunday. Clearly the Stealer hasn't got a clue and I'm beginning to wonder if Germany does either.

I wrote to Dr. Dieter Zetsche, CC'ing the Franchise CEO on Thursday. I know they have the letter, but as yet, not a word... It looks like MB are further up their own bottom than Audi and VW combined. That's a mighty long way.

Anyway, the point of this post is to put it out there to see if anyone else has experienced miss firing on the W205. Maybe I can pass on this info to MB so I can get my car back some time this year.

Franz Hinzbecker from AMG could have built me a new engine in this time!

Thanks W.

That's pathetic service, when you've shelled out that much on a car.

What car did they give you as a courtesy car. Id be demanding a AMG GT, haha.

LMAO!! Now there's another story. I have to hand it to MB breakdown service. I've had to use them twice. (First time wasn't the car's fault). They are very responsive and I have no complaints. As part of the service they offer a courtesy car. However, this is where the good stuff stops. They hand over the hire to Europcar, who are atrocious. On both occasions I have instigated the service on a weekend and both times, through the operator's thick accents one can just about make out they don't have a car available until 10am on Monday. When I asked how they're going to get the car to me in London, they essentially refused coming up with MB's reimbursement scheme for a taxi to the nearest station. In addition, the hire car is only offered for 3 days. It was easier to tell 'em where they could shove their car.

And then we get down to the hire car itself. Last time I think it was a Vauxhall of some description.

Lucky I don't need this car to get to work!

I know cars are complex machines and I understand things can go wrong, but what has got me is the fact the Stealer thinks I am OK with no update for three weeks!!! I doubt they would ever admit they can't find the fault so perhaps no news is better than an outright lie.

Anyway, they have until the 10th November to have it sorted, back on my driveway or they'll be getting the keys back and I'll go and look at something else beginning with 'A', but it won't be from my local either, because they're a bunch of *cough* too.

@Grovsie31 Apologies for the incorrect name. Now, if only I had the car, I'd be able to go and read off the name!:D

Sounds sadly familiar to me.

I collected my new C63s Estate in July.

At 600 miles it rolled to a halt on a dual carriageway with an electrical fit. Turned out to be a dodgy connector on a computer

At 1270 miles it started to misfire whilst driving on the motorway and the Engine Warning light came on. Restarting the car cleared it that time but after another run to check it through, the light came back on and remained on. The car sounded and felt like it was running at least 1 cylinder down.

After firing off some rather exasperated emails to my dealer and Mercedes customer service, I am at least getting things moving with help from my supplying dealer - Richard at Mercedes Harrogate.

- My car was collected this morning
- An S class was delivered to my office at 12.30
- Harrogate had offered to send their C63 demo down if a decent hire car wasn't forthcoming
- My local dealer has called to say they have received the car and will try to get it into the workshop this afternoon

All of this is happening quickly because he is chasing everyone and everything for me.

I'll update here as and when the fault is diagnosed. Good luck getting to the bottom of yours - 5 weeks is shocking

Thanks for the info. Your miss fire issue sounds very similar to mine. My stealer didn't offer any courtesy car whatsoever. Still no word from anyone either. Oh well, their deadline is only 5 days away now...

The courtesy car comes via Mercedes Assistance rather than the dealer.

I left the car outside my house, told Assistance to come and collect it as I wasn't driving it anywhere with the warning light on and I wanted a courtesy car.

Bet a hire car bill for 5 weeks might have helped focus someone to help get your car fixed a little quicker....

Oh right. That's interesting. As I mentioned above, MB assistance handed me over to EuropCar. Besides the fact that the hire period was for only 3 days and I had to return it to them or my Stealer, they wouldn't deliver it to my place of work, wanting me to take at least half a day unpaid to receive it on a Monday morning because they didn't have a vehicle available on the Saturday. After all that it would have been a Vauxhall!

I know you say your loan car comes from Assistance, but is there any dealer or hirer indication on it? I wonder if you dealer and my stealer have a different arrangement with MB assistance and your dealer actually provided the car. Did you have to deal with EuropCar?

Interestingly, like you, after the very first time the light came on, I booked it into the Stealer myself. I enquired then about a courtesy car, outside the remit of MB Assistance and I received an almost "dream on" instantaneous reply.

Thanks.

I dealt straight with Europcar. They called me at 10.30 after Assistance gave them my details, agreed I was due a 'Prestige' car, told me it would be with me at 12.30 and sure enough it arrived on the dot.

As I said earlier, I do think a lot of this has been assisted by the fact that my supplying dealer is chasing things up for me all the way.

Plus, posting a video of the car misfiring on YouTube and posting the link to Customer Services got some attention too.

My local dealer has a month long wait for a courtesy car.

And you have no time limit on the hire period?

I don't think Vauxhall make a "prestige" car!

Clearly there's a world of difference down south.

I suppose I just never thought there'd be so much apathy from them.

I haven't named them in this post yet, but if I don't get a response from them tomorrow, I will and I'll forward a link to this post to Dieter Zetsche, the dealer and the franchise CEO. Perhaps even put it on Facebook too.

I'm in the South East but I bought the car from Harrogate dealer and he's making things happen for me. So I think its just having someone on your side rather than geography?

The service you are getting from the dealer is shocking. Did they sell you the car? Have you spoken to the sales guy who sold it to you? Send emails to keep a record and cc Customer Services

I bought a VW from Hayseldens in Yorkshire, many years ago, mainly because the local VW dealer in East Anglia was expensive and was well known for poor customer service, But Hayselden were fantastic. They brought it down on a transporter, and when I had a problem with the tracking, they came and collected it, taking it all the way back to Yorkshire.

Yes, bought from a main franchise dealer.

The sales guy has ignored me from about week four of owning the car. I think they have some sort of cut-off for "Salesman's" after-sales. But then the salesman - who is a "specialist" in AMGs suggested I needed to buy a package to get a trip around the MB world circuit, when it comes as "standard".

I would have thought escalating it to the top dog would have helped resolve things. Clearly I am wrong.

Thats crap service. Very poor. When I initially went out to buy my C63s I approached the flagship Brooklands dealer and the sales guy there couldn't have been less interested / helpful in trying to sell me a £70,000 car. Just didn't care! Got 10x the service when I bought my wife a Fiat 500 ffs!

Anyway, sounds like I got lucky with Richard - he has stayed interested, helpful and is single handedly saving Mercedes' whole reputation for me at the moment....

BTW, my misfire started when driving home from my free Basic Driving package at MB World! Was a great day until I drove home...!

My Dad picked up a new A6 from Norwich Audi, and the salesman was very pleasant, but then again, so was the Merc salesman. It's just their service department. Although, over the last 15 years, he's never had an issue with Norwich Audi's service either.

According to the Norwich Audi salesman, feedback is key and anything less than 90% means they get severely reprimanded.

The main reason I got the Merc was because the my local Audi salesman couldn't even be bothered to call me to let me know that their demonstrator was in. He did briefly suggest I should put down a deposit before the order book was even open! If I had agreed with the reports on the car, I'd have ordered one with just about every toy. Their loss!!

There seems to be a patten forming here. My local VW, Audi and now Merc dealers all seem to be the same.

What's left? An F-Type S perhaps. mmm...

How was the Brookland's day? I still need to book mine, but as it looks like I'll be telling them were to shove the car, I might not get to go.

I'd tell them to shove it and look elsewhere. That is terrible service, it's not as they are cheap.

Any luck on yours as yet?

Hi Woza,

Thanks for the update.

I still haven't heard anything from them...

I saw it went out for a test drive yesterday and again today, so they're either using it as a run-around, or they're road testing it.

I hope they've diagnosed your fault correctly as that's essentially what they told me 22 days ago...

Thanks

W.

Hi,

Literally within minutes of me clicking "post" the dealer called to say the car is fixed and ready.

I was very short with the service person but in essence he told me that the coil packs had taken 3 weeks to be delivered!!!

I'll be keen to find out how long it takes for your new coil packs to arrive. I hope it won't be 3 weeks. At least it didn't take your dealer so long to diagnose the fault.

I have also spoken with MB Customer Services UK and they tell me that they have received the letter I sent to the CEO and it is being "dealt" with by someone in their senior team. I have requested a call back. Mmmm....

Hopefully the car will be on the driveway when I get home.

Thanks,

W.
