Hie guys on my w205 the auto stop start sign on the dash remains yellow I have taken the car on the motorway for an hours / 2 hours drive but it remains yellow. I recently got it from a dealer and even on my way home remains yellow. Does the weather affect stop start could it be battery be affected due to the car being parked for an extended period of time due to covid restrictions there are no messages on dash regarding battery and all seems normal

Many factors determine whether S/S operates or not. Mine never operates now and, even in the summer, if I fully charged the batteries, it might have worked for a day or so and then reverts to 'normal'. I suspect the problem is with the S/S 'battery' which seems to 'age' with the car to the point where it takes so long to charge that it is effectively inoperative. Noe that on the 205s, the 'battery' is a capacitor which behaves differently from a normal battery.

Personally, I don't see it as a problem because continual starting and stopping in traffic cant be good for the engine anyway.

Stop start systems are really temperamental, it doesn't take much for it to stop operating.
The battery has to be 100% charged and this time of year with lights, heaters and such being used takes out of even the best batteries.
Ive had experience of this on my wife’s Fiesta, it was back and forth to the garage and they just put the battery on charge over night and it sorted the problem.
As a foot note, it’s stopped working again due to the car not being used very much during this current lock down. So just try charging your battery and see if that works, easy things first.

Thanks I went to the garage to get it checked and said all is well with the battery I guess I have to get used to it from my old car which worked perfectly

Many thanks for your response. On the dash there is a charge indicator which shows battery being charged under coasting/braking but this “charging” has not made a difference in getting s/s to work My previous car w204 s/s worked perfectly even in cold weather after 3-4 miles after starting it would kick in

I suppose it’s a good as you say if engine doesn’t shut off as I have heard s/s causes extra wear on certain components

I think mines showing yellow at the moment. S/S frequently doesn't work when the car has been parked up for a couple of days which seems the norm at the moment.
Long journeys with little braking don't seem to charge it adequately, whereas shorter journeys with braking do.
Pop it on a CTEK charger for a day or so and it will likely be as good as new.
