I wonder though, is the C450 just a C400 in different tune, similarly to the C220/C250 CDI? Or will there be mechanical differences too. If not, it's probably going to work out cheaper to remap a C400.

The 220/250 are mechanically different.

The 220/250 are mechanically different.

I've been searching high and low for documentation on that - are they for definite and if so, what are they? From what I've seen, performance figures are very similar for both models, after a remap.

Depends which year you're looking at as to exact differences. The larger sequential turbo is the key.

If you have 2 vins you can quickly compare part numbers in the EPC.

Mine's on a 62 plate (C250 CDI), are you saying that the C220 would have a smaller turbo? Both the C220 and C250 have a twin-turbo setup.

I had one of the new A class (while my car was in for service work) with one of these i-pad type devices in it and it looked like a cheap last minute after thought, spoilt the interior of the car imho

Mercedes plans C450 AMG Sport for 2015

Looks quite interesting and a good compromise if you don't want i) a derv ii) a C63 and iii) a four-pot. Looks like it'll be offered in 4Matic guise too.

Edit: then again, who in their right mind wouldn't want a C63 (of those fortunate enough to be able to buy/run one, that is)?
