Hi, so it appears I have a strange noise coming from the C200

Like most noises its intermittent and can only really be described as a groaning noise inside the cabin related to the engine speed. Doesn't appear to have anything to do with the air con as I turned the fan off and the noise still persists

Its very random - does it sometimes and at other times the engine is very refined with no issues. No loss of power or change in delivery of the power either.

Any ideas?

By engine speed do you mean it happens when you rev the car (stationary) as well as when you drive the car ?

Yes precisely. So it'll groan whilst stationary and gets worse when revving.

But again, it's intermittent and I honestly can't find a pattern to when it happens. Drives fine as well.

Engine mounts?

Exhaust heatsheild rattling?

I have replaced a few exhaust systems on 205 petrols, as the baffles came loose in the back silencer and it caused a very odd noise that would come and go

I mean the engine doesn't move excessively when revved and it's still smooth. No vibrations. Just the groaning noise

The groaning seems to be coming from the front of the car. Close to the engine bay. All the fluids including coolant are ok.

Groan on my S203 turned out to be dry joints between the chassis rails and front bumper crush boxes. Front car disassembled and mating faces greased. Silence!

Interesting. I mean it could be that but the noise I have almost sounds like an air con compressor with air in it. Like groaning away intermittently but it stays even with the air con system is off
