Hello guys I have a 67 plate c200 amg line premium + it’s done 8.5k miles and now the engine light has come on.
I bought a obII scanner and the fault code p2200 shows up and it says box sensor circuit bank 1.

Would I be able to clean the sensor
And is there 2 sensors
Is there some kind of manual that shows you where all the parts are.

I do plumbing and heating and boilers have diagrams ect

If yours is a C200 petrol it may be a NOx sensor as they can go faulty on petrols as well as diesels. On the other hand if a diesel, it almost certainly will be a the NOx sensors as they seem to fail regularly. You may get it sorted under goodwill, though, as MB recognise that there are on-going problems with them.

hello and thank you. It is a petrol engine.
Somebody said it may be something to do with the catalic converter too and I should maybe take it for a hard run! Although it does get a hard run when I drive it and the misses isn’t

I haven’t had it serviced so doubt Mercedes will do a good will.

I suggest that you get a decent scanner that can read MB-specific fault codes (as opposed to a generic OBDII scanner) such as the iCarsoft MB v2.0, or better still take it to a garage that have MB STAR diagnostic computer.

Modern cars have lots of electronics as I am sure you are aware, and replacing parts at random without the guidance of a proper diagnostic computer can be expensive.

Incidentally, your car has the M274 engine which does not have any major issues, apart from thermostat failure, but at 8500 miles it's unlikely.

More likely the fault may have something to do with the low mileage and the fact that the engine is mostly running cold, e.g. carbon deposits etc.

But unlike DPF, cats don't really get clogged-up due to short journeys, they are just ineffective (I.e. the car will be polluting) but they don't fail.

Thanks for the info. I’ll buy a mb reader and see what it brings up. I really want to get in to knowing this car and fixing it so I’m sure it’ll be worth it.

So the obd scanners are just generic codes and not that helpful overall where’s as you get more in-depth scanner that give more detail on the fault?
Is there car diagrams or do mechanics generally plug it in and get all the info and diagrams on the net as opposed to a book I could buy myself.
Thanks

Can you not get your car repaired under warranty although I know dealer access may be difficult at the moment unless your a key worker.

As above, if it's still within the 3 years warranty it's worth giving it a go, even if the car does not have full dealer service history.

Hello guys I have now bought and used the icarsoft scanner and have the fault code p220164 box sensor cylinder bank 1 there’s a unreasonable signal!

I’ve noticed it has turned the engine light off a few times and come back!

You need a new sensor, possibly re-coding and a software update. That will fix it.

Hello is it possibly to clean the sensors?
Also if I replace the sensor will the car work without the software update so I could get it to a garage?
And how do I know if it needs an update can this icarsoft reader update it.
Thanks

You can't clean them. The new sensor is modified as there is an issue with them. It needs an OFFICIAL Mercedes Star system (Xentry) to do the coding and the update. Your code reader cannot do it as the software comes directly from Mercedes in Germany.

I would get your local MB specialist do the job for you. They will be well versed in this repair as its common.

Thanks for the info I was hoping to replace it myself.
What’s a rough cost for it to be replaced and where can I view the bank 1 box sensor

...I’ve noticed it has turned the engine light off a few times and come back!...

You mean to say that you have erased the fault code, and got a clean scan, but then the fault code came back?

No it cleared itself then came back I didn’t remove the code.

although today I have now removed the code

Is a 67 plate not under warranty? Have you got Mobilo cover?

Either way if it’s a know defect I’d be asking MB nicely if they could repair it FOC or certainly with a decent amount of goodwill :thumb:

Its located on the exhaust. Expect to pay about £500+ for one fitted and coded.

I got both my N0x sensors and updated FOC at a main dealer last year, my car is a CLS and had done 31000 miles and was 4 years old, so out of warranty, they told me that it is a known problem and that if a car has less than 100,000 mile and has service history they will do the job FOC,

I thought I was going to have a fight on my hands to try and get a goodwill payment from them, Happy Day and good luck

ouch I’ll have to pay as I ain’t had it serviced.
Shame for the coding side of things as it looks a doddle to replace.
