Hi all,

Hope everyone had a great new year!!

Squeaky/Squealing Brakes.... Yes I know Amg have somewhat admitted to this but mine are starting to do my head in. So I got the car a little while now and currently sitting at 14k miles, I went for my safety recall something about the battery tray which got done and during the vehicle check I mentioned the squealing brakes but all pads are only 15% worn and they are OEM.

The mercedes garage said they couldn't do much about this as the pads have the same part number so the change would be like for like and they wouldn't recommend it as my pads are only 15% worn.

Any advice or suggestions? Should I annoy the amg garage to find a solution or I'm I going to embarrass myself 😂

The squeals seem to come from the front brakes and they squeal continuously everytime when I slowly come to to a stop. Harsh braking there is no squeals.

P. S They are not the Ceramic rotors or brakes.

Thanks!!

Mine did the same at around the same mileage, particularly in town driving. I went back to Mercedes who "couldn't trace a fault", and I put up with them as a result. Oddly, the squeal (rather than a squeak) disappeared on it's own after a few thousand miles.

Good luck......

Apologies, it's definitely a squeal not a squeak 😂 Like a continuous squeal until it comes to a stop.

Did you do anything in particular to stop the squeal?

Thanks!

No, people on here said it's just what they do.... It's funny, I hadn't actually realised that they've stopped until I read your post

My 2017 63S saloon does the same thing and has done since I got it new to me in July last year. Doesn't really bother me to be fair, same deal as you, squeal on stop but not massive volume, generally drowned out by the sound of the engine anyway :)

Thanks for the replies guys, I think I will just live with it then, slightly feel a little more at ease! Very true the engine note definitely does make up for it!

Just out of curiosity, have you gents considered any aftermarket pads? I was thinking of trying some of those ceramic pads from EBC or Akebono?

Thanks!

my fronts are still ok, but I changed the rears for Brembo from ECP. They've been fine so far.

Don't go near Merc to get them changed, they were ridiculously expensive and an easy job for the indi who did mine

Great! I will look at Brembo aswel but just thought I give ceramic pads a go and se what there like!

I have sourced a really good independent mercedes specialist in Glasgow from another thread on here so think I will go to them!

Also my service B is due soon, might aswel do the lot!

Also quite newbie but I didn't even know these cars need a gearbox service and filter change but I was told by the garage this wouldn't be needed until 20k miles, not sure if I should do them at the moment!

I'm lucky at the moment, car has just gone over 5k miles and no brake squeal, but i'll be looking at aftermarket (Brembo) pads when they need changing.

I will definitely look into Brembo's but always thought they were a hype when it came to there marketing but seems like people are content with them!

The ceramic pads were the portfield ones and I've read some really good review from MB forums regarding these, anyways I've sent an email to them and awaiting a quote for front and rear pads, will update once I receive it!

I had a look on their site and they only quote for the W204?

Keep us posted

Hi all,

So I got the quote for the Portfield R4S front and rear pads all four corners, pretty much £514.87 for all the pads. Expensive or sounds about right? Screenshot_20210106-144142.png

The noise will go after a few more miles.

There is a solution though. A small chamfer on the edge of the pad will sort it.

I've had exactly the same on my w205 C63 (thread on here somewhere). I got all mine replaced under warranty for the squealing but it came back again after a few hundred miles. The noise gets worse with miles - not better. It is a known issue.
I just live with it now.

I'd be very interested in finding out if those pads reduce brake dust, particularly at the rear...??

Well on there website and forums I've read, they do seem to reduce the brake dust noticeably more than OEM pads. Also the material that the pads are made from are Carbon Kevlar, never heard of such thing 😂 Anyone tried these type of material for pads before?

Also what is the pricing like? I noticed they are more expensive than Brembo's
