Hey guys!

My front and rear pads are looking a bit low. For now the car hasn't flagged them up so I won't change them until then.

But in the mean time Im looking at replacements and ordering soon so I'll be ready when that time comes.

Which pads online does everyone get on with?
Is the Brembo pads any good?
Or is EBC yellow stuff better?
Or does anyone have a site that gets good discount on genuine Mercedes pads

Any help much appreciated

Mercedes main dealers are sometimes competitive on brake parts. Try calling a few local dealerships in your are, and try contacting Mercedes-Benz of Edinburgh and Mercedes-Benz of Newcastle on eBay - both are known to offer fairly substantial discounts on parts.

If looking at aftermarket pads, then personally I would be looking at Brembo pads, they have an excellent reputation for quality and can be good value too.

It's always interesting when people who own premium brands don't want to pay the rrp on the parts from the dealer. Like why did you buy the car? Jist for the badge?!
Ok, so just call a dealer and tell them you're trade and have a private garage. You'll get a discount that way.

Brembo? Why? Cos they make the brake system and calipers? Or is it cos they spend so much money in marketing, they're the only brand that pops into your head for brakes?

If you're after just names.
Then better to buy:
Ferodo, ate, trw, Galfer, Textar or Jurid.

If you don't care about makes and want value for money from a company who are equally as good but don't sponsor their names on the side of racing cars.

Then consider
Apec, NK, Eurobrake, Delphi, Girling, Icer, Febi, and LPR.

Avoid brands such as

Brembo, Comline, Allied Nippon, fahren, Braymann, Omega, EEC, herth and buss, SCT, Mintex, Eicher, Drivetec, drivemaster.
Correct. I said avoid brembo for pads. The OE pads are not the same quality as the Hp1000 performance pads (which are actually made in a Ferodo factory).

As for EBC. If you've had them before and like the way they are. Then go for it. However I find they eat the disc a lot quicker than a OEM specification pad. Also do you really need that kind of pad for the road?

I'll try my 2 local Mercedes then I'll get in contact with Mercedes Benz Edinburgh and Newcastle and see who's more competitive. Thanks for the tip 👍🏼

Hi mate, didn't get the car for the "badge" sometimes some good quality parts are just as good or even better. Alot of times they are worse! But I won't know unless I ask.

Like I didn't no the yellow stuff eats discs so I'll 100% stay away from them!

And I also didn't know its that easy to get a discount from Mercedes 😁

Ant. My Indy quoted £950 for front discs and pads and rear pads fitted, all genuine MB parts.
Wait till the light comes on which will be a while as you don’t do much mileage.

I have fitted Brembo discs and pads on both cars now in all axles , I think my E class was £180 for the entire car (diy fitted)
Try Autodoc (on the app) to get a decent base price .
MB Grangemouth parts , do a forum discount and deliver for a few quid

Definitely will wait mate. Just being nosey and checking out prices for now 👍🏼

I have so far fitted only genuine MB discs and pads, that's what the specialist who looks after my cars recommended (Terry at WG) and I just followed his advice.

However, when I got the W204 nearly four years ago, it had brand new front discs and pads fitted by the dealer (not an MB dealer) prior to the sale, and on closer inspection the pads were VETECH, which I believe is a GFS own-brand, and is now called DRIVETECH. I couldn't see any marking on the discs but I am assuming that they were probably also the same brand.

The trader who sold me the car was clearly fixing issues to a budget.... but in spite of my initial reservations, I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The car has always stopped well, the bite if progressive and feels right when cold and hot, and the brakes are quiet. The dics aren't grooved and the lip is minimal.

The car was serviced earlier this month and the report said that the front brakes are "in very good condition" and the pads are "50% worn". That's 18,000 miles and shy if 4 years since I bought the car... not bad.

That said, when the time comes I'll just fit what Terry advises, which will probably be genuine MB again (make by Pajid?).

Ooh I use to contract for Delphi Automotive for 15 years (they took over parts of Lucas Automotive in the UK back in the nineties), I knew that statement isn't right :D

They make decent parts though (apart from the Piezo Diesel injectors fiasco in 2011, but that was the Blois factory in France, nothing to do with us!).

Delphi are very good. However, they lost out on friction OEM with Nissan/Renault lately to TRW in Europe.
They still owned by Lockheed, so have a decent R&D facility.

MB Newcastle quoting

£789.50 for;

Front Disks
Front Pads
Rear Pads

which I don't think is too bad for genuine parts.
Did they email the estimate over?
Probably knock £350 off that if you opted for Apec

Interesting post.

Can I ask what your expertise is in the brake pad industry considering your shared knowledge in this post?

Try MB Edinburgh via ebay, normally better £
