So, I'm finally sick and tired of looking at my scratched C Class piano black centre console. It's been changed once under warranty due to peeling and fading issues, and now it's fading again. I'm sure they've made this out of the softest plastic known to man as it scratches as soon as a fly lands onp it.

I've sourced another console but I'm running short of ideas of how to get it done.

The only things I have thought of up to now is having it done in proper carbon fibre (expensive), a dry clarion wrap like in the A class, or brushed alluminium hydrodip to match the pieces in the dash.

Any suggestions/recommendations are appreciated.

I was only looking at mine yesterday in bright sunshine and I too thought it didn't look good. Carbon fibre was my first thought as it would keep the dark look, but for one look sportier p, and two, wouldn't look like a washed out grey in the sun!

Can also see scratches in mine, and to be brutally honest, I haven't even wiped it over yet, so these are from the factory.

Going to be really interested to see what you end up with here :thumb:

I may just go for the carbon wrap for now.

Funds are getting tighter and tighter because I can't stop buying wheels!!

A couple of hours later and it's all done.

Looks OK, but I'm not 100% sure on it.

Think I'll probably be getting it dipped in some weird design at some point. The wife has found a nice and not so subtle blue flaming skull design that she quite likes!! But I'll get it in the car before making a final decision.

In the meantime, here's some pictures.

That looks cool. Could we see a photo of it back in the car and fully populated with all the switches etc?

How easy was it to remove?

Will do. It should be going in on the weekend.

...and how did you remove it???
I haven't removed mine yet. This was a spare centre console that I acquired.

I'll post up some removal instructions when I've changed them over.

How did you get the chrome trim off?

The Chrome strip across the pop up cover and its surround.
The chrome surrounds are part of the heater control unit, the touch pad and the ash tray unit.

The chrome insert is only plastiwelded in, so I put a screw driver on the back of the weld and turned it a few times. This breaks the weld on the back and the trim piece can be prised very carefully off.

The console is in!

The only real problem was putting the wrapped covers back on the air vents. After 20 minutes of faffing about I decided they wouldn't go on, so as a result I've kept the piano black on the vents. This will then match the screen, side vents and control units.

Here's some pictures of it. It's not perfect, but will do for now.

Top job, really like that

Really like that!! I always preferred the wood finish as the black plastic was s bit PC world for the quality of the rest of the car!

Going by the pics.....that's spot on!

Love to see it in the flesh though.

I realise that you had a spare console to work on but, when you removed the existing console, did all the switches and vents etc. stay in place? Is it a question of just unclipping the edges and taking off the piano black trim? If so, is that easy to do without damage?

If it comes out that easily I'm thinking of removing mine for careful cleaning and polishing of any existing light scratches rather than wrapping at this stage (at least until it gets so bad that wrapping is the only option).

Actually, if it's just a simple clip-out/clip-in operation it also explains why mine creaks sometimes over rough ground!

It's dead easy.

The hardest part is working out how to get the silver trim at the base out. Once that's done, unscrew the 2 screws you can see and then just tug it back and lift it out.

Once it's out then everything is just screwed or clipped in to the back of it.

To get the silver bit out, slide a trim room underneath it in 4 places and gently lift up. Here's the 4 places.

Hi, i've never wrapped anything before! Do you buy this as a pre cut kit or is it something you have to cut yourself? Thanks
