I have been given a Nextbase dash cam and fitting kit for Xmas!

I would like to fit it myself as it looks reasonably straightforward. I have access to Bojo tools and I know that there are suitable fuse panels on the end of the dashboard or in the passenger foot well.

My question is: the W205 has air bags in both A pillars. Is removing and replacing the trim over them a DIY job or should I be taking it to a MB service centre or other specialist? Has anybody tried?

On my previous car the E300 Hybrid (2014) I took the A pillar off it was very easy.

The plastic airbag cover just prises off and there is a screw beneath, cannot remember if torx or not but when out just wiggle the cover upwards and outwards to remove.

You should not disturb the airbag doing this but I am no expert so do at your own risk.

My car was in the dealership for a rattle and I saw the technician do this hence my limited knowledge.

a) I assume you have the NextBase hardwire kit

b) The NextBase cameras have a shock sensor in them, so wake-up when asleep and record. A significant amount of the power circuits in a new Mercedes turn off after a few hours or if the battery gets low. So make sure you find one which stays on permanently.

c) Run the cable so it can't impede the airbag deployment and stick it down with sticky back felt or cable tie to existing harness.

Cheers

Richard
