Had my 2015 W205 AMG line c220 since last July with no issues until I noticed during the cold mornings that the transmission downshift from 5th to 4th became jerky. This only occurs when the car is cold on first start up and only became evident when the cold weather arrived. It is very noticeable as if the breaks have been applied but when the car is fully warmed up it disappears and is as smooth as the other downshifts
Have had software updates but unfortunately it hasn't resolved the issue. Will pay my local indie a visit again as soon as I get the chance but in the meantime has anyone else experienced similar.

Is it due a gearbox oil service? When was the last one done? I'd have started there before messing about with any software.

Not certain when last one was carried out but if the intervals are as believed to be around 35000 miles or 3 years then yes it probably wouldn't hurt to have it done. The car has just reached 60k so might be a good bet.

worth getting the oil checked, also for any leaks... if its the 7G gearbox then they tend to be jerky till warmed up

Ok, this is weird. I came here to write almost identical words to the OP. Except my car is a W218 CLS 350

This problem is driving me crazy. It's the last issue I have with my car and I want to get it sorted. As per the OP, on cold starts, the gearbox is generally ok, but when changing down from 5-4, the car momentarily jerks so badly, it's like I've hit something or I've hit the brakes hard for a split second.

It has been to 3 specialists now, most recently MBS Southampton. Firstly the software was updated - no fix. Then the adaptations were reset - no fix, then the oil level was checked and found to be fine, then after a few weeks of learning the box was better in most gears except 5-4. Then MBS did the proper manual adaptation process, which made the rest of the gears pretty smooth now, pretty good changes, but 5-4 is still horrible. They also changed the engine mounts which fixed a the little vibrations and rumbles I'd get on coming to a stop.

What else could the problem be? I've seemingly tried everything, and there have never been any error codes showing up at all. Although it goes away (it doesn't just go completely, it gets better and better over about 10 minutes, where the jerking goes from almost painful, to minor, and then disappears), it's ruining the enjoyment of an otherwise great car.

Can anyone help me!
