When did this become a tradition?

I have always used the parking brake.

OK, a bit tongue-in-cheek, but we used regularly to see posts on here from folks whose manual parking brakes struggled to meet MOT standards through lack of use. Things might be a bit different now that the electronic systems are much more efficient.
