W205/ S205 Wind Noise?

Thanks. Do you think this will help how seriously they take my case if I present this when reporting the problem at the dealership?

Can't do any harm but will depend on the individual dealer's attitude. I would adopt a diplomatic approach initially outlining your problem to the service manager and asking if they have further updates to your copy of XENTRY TOPIC GI72.10-P-061763 letting them know you are aware of an existing problem recognised by Mercedes themselves. If this doesn't elicit a favourable reponse take it to another dealer?
this is version 3 part in english

Thank you this is very helpful. I translated the German version and on a very quick comparison it looks very similar to Version 2. Having said that it looks as though a number seal/door alignment checks need to be performed and if they don't fix it then acoustic glass may do the trick. Actually I thought the C Class had acoustic glass as standard but clearly I'm wrong?:thumb:

Have you been able to identify/fix this problem? I have the same but it's intermittent but will bring to MB's attention as part of the 1st service check soon but it's a difficult one as no doubt when you want this to happen it wont!! So unless -on the day of service/road test- it manifests itself then the MB Technician is probably going to say ''what noise, sir?''
It's most noticeable on the motorway, especially on a windy day. I don't do much motorway driving so it's not an everyday annoyance. If I was ploughing up and down the motorways everyday I would have put a brick through it!
Good news

I had to take the MB Technician down the A419 for a spin and he agreed with me there was a wind noise , They replace both front window glass with the update glass under MB warrantee , much better now the technician said he done 2 or 3 in the last 6 months.

The lady called KYRA from Swindon MB may be able to help you.

Thanks

Martin

Is the new Acoustic glass tinted as thought read somewhere that it isn't?

I believe its made by Pilkington rather than Sekurit Saint Gobain but can't comment on the tint sorry.

Afternoon folks, I have this issue on my c class estate, however I've only had the car a few weeks and it's out of warranty (64 plate). Would anyone know if I took the car to dealer this would be looked at FOC or will there be a charge. I assumed as there is a recognised fault it may be looked at FOC but I'm new to Mercedes so would appreciate some advice?

If you don't ask you don't get is my motto. And if this fails the glass costs around £60 a door (not sure how much to fit).

Has anyone had this issue on the coupe/cabriolet? I had the window regulator replaced on my coupe and when driving from the dealership I noticed a lot more wind noise compared to what it was like before I took it in. It's not horrendous but it does sound like the window isn't closed properly. I'm wondering if it's just the alignment following the replacement of the regulator.

I appreciate this an old thread but over the last few months my 2016 W205 developed considerable wind noise on near side at 40+ mph. We noticed it after a mid summer service and new front tyre (standard Continental ContiSport). 100% sure it wasn’t noisy in my almost 6 years of ownership.

I taped up door seals and swapped wheels without any real improvement, although moving the new tyre to the back may have reduced it slightly.

So today it went into the local MB dealer who carried out recommended tests and now tell me its a manufacturing issue and needs acoustic glass in front windows at something like £900.

The rub is that because it’s 6 years old MB won’t cover it under warranty (after coming home though I’ve wondered if I should have pushed hard on the extended warranty).

Question. Has anyone succeeded in getting MB to cover cost of acoustic glass on a 6 year old car?
Thanks for any advice.

Back in 2016 when my car was new I could not get the dealership to accept there was a fault. Acoustic glass does help to reduce noise and it certainly stops you trying to close already closed windows to kill the wind noise as you think the windows down a few mm. Decided to do the replacement out of my own pocket as from memory the front L & R side glass cost me about £160. I fitted the glass myself in about one hour. So at £200 per hour labour and the glass price doubling the garage stand to make a good extra profit at £900.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.
Yes, MB estimate quotes glass, both sides at £144 ex vat. Labour £672.
I probably would have tackled it a while ago but not these days unfortunately.
I was aware of the glass issue some time ago but my car was as quiet as a mouse and I didn’t question it.
Early this year somebody pranged the front near side damaging just the wheel and steering gear. July she was serviced and a new tyre fitted on that wheel.
Over the following months we became increasingly aware of noise. Something had changed and I think the glass issue is intensifying it.
I have switched the two near side wheels as I wonder if there is a slight twist in that wheel which didn’t show up in balancing, but at the moment the jury is out on that.
