Hi and Merry Christmas all!

So I went to a car wash and shortly after I noticed a very wet footwell. Not the best Christmas present!

I've heard a few reasons, most likely appears to be that the drains by the windscreen are blocked.

Is there a How To for how to clear the drains? Can anyone give fairly detailed instructions by any chance please?

Also does anyone have any other ideas of potential causes?

Many thanks and Merry Christmas again!

Anything happened with regard to your windscreeen lately - replacement, colission? damaged while parked ? Any Autumn leaves clogging. ?

No accidents. But quite a lot of leaves (now cleared)

You may want to take the panel below the glovebox out as it will no doubt be soaked. The heater motor lives there and moisture won't do that any good.

Hi,
As you already stated it will be blocked drains in the heater box, the grills below the screen need to be removed, and the top of the heater box, then use a straightened coat hanger to dig out the debris and clear the drains.
When the heater box drains are blocked the water coming down the screen through the grills fill the heater box up till it overflows into the heater ducting and runs into the car on the passenger side, after the air box drains are cleared, you should check the condition of the heater motor and replace pollen filter.

You will probably get away without the need to change the pollen filter but I would certainly check and drain the heater motor out. When you have the panel removed that is under the glovebox you can dry that out indoors as its full of soundproofing and holds a fair amount of water.

Get a length of flexable wire locate the drain on n/s and slide the wire in the drain hole and run a hose of the grille area this will clear and flush any debris

I ended up having to dismantle it. I could feel the blockage but couldn't dig it out with a pipe cleaner or a coat hanger. After dismantling, I can best describe what I found as mud! So it couldn't really have been dug out in any event.

I've taken out the bit below the glove box which was a bit wet. I also had the car running with High Heating on re-circulation to hopefully dry out the inside a bit.
