OK so i've been given some advice so far on this but as a side issue.

I had the soaked footwell problem and on pulling the carpet up i found this wire tucked under the plastic trim covering the sill. It didn't appear to be connected to anything, so a very light pull revealed it to be around 4-5 foot in length. I've now taken off the metal panel at back of footwell and found it is the Auto Gearbox Control unit. The thing i need to know now is, where should this wire go and how is it connected to the gearbox if that's where it she be sited. Thanks.

The unit to the right of the gearbox tcu is a tracker. Im sure the cable you have should join to that. I have never seen a cable like that from a tcu before

Cheers Andy. I'll have a another trace of the wiring and double check where it is attached to. I was worrying that it might be a sped sensor from the gearbox tcu and something important.
