CLK 230K W208
Hi all,

My fathers 1998 W208 CLK 320 has become a non-starter since sitting for several months unused.

He managed to get it started and took it out for a 20 mile run last weekend but the following Monday, he had to call out a local MB guy to reset the throttle, since apparently it lost comms with the car. Basically the car wouldn't respond to throttle movement. Apparently the car was in need of a new MAF so one was fitted too.

Anyway, then the following day it would not start at all. Cranked over (so not the typical click you get with CPS issues). As a precaution the CPS was changed, my dad did this himself (was a mechanic many moons ago).

Any other suggestions? Is there any kind of reset we can do? We've tried disconnecting / re-connecting the battery but no joy, car just cranks but does not start. Before you ask, we put a fresh gallon of petrol in, just in case the gauge was faulty :D

Interesting, upon checking fues, I notice fuse 4 in the boot (apparently one of the central locking ones) blows every time I put one in. I think this is likely unrelated.

Anyway... A local MB guy is going to come by tomorrow with a STAR but just keen to see if there is anything else we can try.

Thanks...

Can you hear the fuel pump prime each time you power the IGN ?

Fuse 4 in the rear "Fusebox 4" powers pin 2 of the PSE

The fuel pump does apparently whiz, my father listened near the rear end and apparently heard this. For testing the spark, we didn't have a means of doing this.

The battery was replaced on the car and now all is well.

However, I am sceptical of this diagnosis as we were jump starting it and charging it with a charger when the battery became low.

In fact the reason the battery came to be replaced was due to some miracle it actually started on Saturday and my dad took it out. He broke down around 10 miles later, it coughed and then gave out.

The MB specialist he took it to diagnosed a battery issue, replaced it and so far it seems to be behaving.

I just find this odd!

Hey its a Mercedes

Nothing odd at all .......... quite normal in fact :)
