Out in my Clk 230 w208 last night and the a/c fan suddenly kicked in, remaining running after ignition off.
Pulled the fuse to isolate the fan, also removing the passenger side under dash panel. Found the insulation fixed to the panel wet through; also the wiring to the fan/fan control module the same.
Looking under the bonnet/pearing down into the wheel arch, the opening was pretty much filled with leaves. Also I suspect the rubber drain end for the condensate was blocked with crud.
Decided to take a chance with a replacement module, which came in at £61+ vat from Eurocarparts. Fitted easily enough, also clearing the leaves etc.
Problem solved ! I've left the underpanel off to dry out, also to check if any condensate drips onto the footwell rather than through the drain where it should be going. I'd recommend any with the same set up to check the rubber drain/end is'nt blocked as well as the leaves etc.
