hi all , after reading a few posts about non-working aircon units i found my system seemed to be showing sysmtoms different to other described in previous threads .

The gas in the system was all depleated , showing no readout on preasure gauge , according to previous threads my EC light should have stayed on but it didnt . I was able to engage and disengage as usual .The condenser clutch wasnt engauging , I think this was par for the course though . Having some gas/fluid from a previous top-up I though i'd 'try it anyway' just to see and hey prestow , as soon as I started putting the new stuff in the condeser clutch engaged and all was cold again. I have read other threads where advise about changing various componants needed to be done when the clutch doesnt kick in , Am I just lucky or is this the norm and I've read the other posts wrong?

It'll last for a few weeks and then it will stop working again.

I've got the same problem , it'll be the condenser which rots behind the radiator.

Ive checked the pressure again today and it seems to be holding

I said a few weeks , not overnight.

I had mine regassed about 3 months ago , and it has just packed up again.

so are we talking weeks or months now?

13 weeks = few weeks

I think that settles it... :)

Look mate , i was trying to help , if you want to split hairs , good luck with sorting out your aircon.

its already sorted , i was just trying to be helpfull for all the other people who have been advised to change out their condenser , I don't mean to come across as being funny mate , appoligies if thats what it seemed like .

As Olly says , you will have a leak , it may well be a small one , but it will be leaking.

Olly quite rightly told me it would be my condenser when i last saw him , i didn't want to beleive it , but he was / is right.

I'll sort out a new condenser soon.

I'll keep an eye on the prerssure then , with fingers crossed that is

Allowing AC gas into the atmosphere is a bit naughty

probably so blackc55 but probably no more harmfull than the emisions of a bigger merc engine , still seems to be holding

It may do for a long while. A few weeks maybe even months.

The gas directly harms the ozone layer

I thought that was R12?

I thought R134A was introduced as it had no (or negligible) effect on the ozone layer.

You learn something new every day!!

seems everthing harms something now a days ,i best just give up on it now before i blow the sun up or something , or not believe the government propagander to entice me into spending more of my hard earned money on the next new earth saving mega tax . Global warming ? i suppose i'll have to stop farting next. I blame Halfords

I was not trying to preach to you, I was just giving you the facts. I am sure the sun won't be harmed either :thumb:

The hole in the ozone layer is very real just like farting.:D

I was reading up on this the other day weirdly.

It appears that r134a is just as destructive but the molecules are engineered to be much less stable , hence it breaks down in the upper atmosphere quicker , doing less damage.

The old stuff hung around for ages before it broke down , doing loads of damage.
