HI, my car used to auto-lock when driving off. I left someone in my car while I nipped to the shop and it was locked from inside. Now it won't lock when i drive off:confused:

I've checked my user manual and tried the following to no avail:

  • Opened the car from outside (remote)
  • Turned the ignition to 2 (the one just before it starts!)
  • Held the rocker switch in, in the upper position for about 6 seconds
  • *I think I turned the ignition off after doing this, then removed the key, then started the car and went for a quick test-drive* Obviously didn't work!
I'd be very grateful if someone could tell me where I'm going wrong:o

I wasn't sure whether or not to try a battery disconnect, but wasn't sure if this would create more problems!

Does the CLK have a menu section on the instrument panel that allows a scroll through menus?

Hi, mines a pre-facelift. I think the thigs i can only scroll through are miles/service intervals etc.

Had identical problem on my W208 CLK recently. Used the procedure in the manual as described in your post, although not sure about removing the key after, etc. Worked perfectly. Suggest you try again. If it does not work straight off, try other variations like not removing key after procedure.

vindaloo - Ive got a W208, When i brought it it did not auto lock, I simply pressed and held the door locking button when the car was running and it switched into auto locking mode .....

Might be worth a try .........

I;d do this when the car is running, and holding the lock button down for a lot longer (count to 30)

Cheers

Richard

Got this sorted yet?

Thanks very much everyone. Still not solved it...yet! The only reason I remove my key is because the car won't start if it is in position 2 for so many seconds. I have to start it as soon as I hear the immobiliser turn off and the key is allowed to turn :(

Will keep trying though!

Stuart..the interior light appears to be ok. Any reason???

There may have another fault that you cannot have the key in position 2 for any length of time and then start the engine without removing the key.

Just a thought perhaps you need to speak to a mech at a dealer.
