w208 CLK 230 Convertible 2002 - HELP

Hello MB Club,

Just need some help with a few minor issues, i recently brought a clk 2002 , amazing car great value low mileage etc, but i have notice a few issues, which i would like to solve:

1. BAS ESP - Light comes on, only after i have been driving for over a hour or so, but goes off when on driving for a while and will remain off until i start driving again for a long period. the cruise control still works while the light is on. a friend said one of the led lights from the brake light is out, and said that might be the problem???

2. Drivers Window Auto up/down when closing/ opening door is not happening, it works on the passenger side door but not on the drivers door, which makes the window stick out a bit, not in line with the back window, also the up and down movement of the window is not fluent, struggles a bit.

3. LCD pixel on dashboard arent working fully, but thanks to this website, i managed to find a easy fix for that and a video instruction on youtube.

4. last and most important, issues is the steering wheel, there is play in the steering, friend has said to adjust the steering box etc?? will this be possible, because hes not sure if you can adjust it on these type of cars?

i would really appericate anyones help, its my first mercedes, and i cant believe its taken me this long to get one.....i plan on keeping this car for a long time, just want it to be prefect or close as can be....:bannana::bannana::bannana:

Hello Razy85 welcome to the forum.

A couple of suggestions foe the problems you are encountering.

1. Might be worth changing the brake light switch. (Do a search at the top of this page).

2. I'm presuming you mean the window doesn't drop when you open the door. This is controlled by a box of tricks behind the interior trim panel, this might be disconnected by a previous owner?

3. You seem to have got sorted.

4. Needs to be looked at by someone that knows their stuff. The simplest thing would be to take it to a reliable garage and have it MOT'd. They will identify the problem and and advise you accordingly.

It may well be worth finding a local independent Mercedes garage with STAR, they can plug the car into the diagnostic system and see what fault codes are there. May well help with the window and the brakes (BAS/ESP).

thanks for your reply....i have ordered the led brake light for the boot as currently one of the led light is not working, hopefully this is causing the BAS/ESP light to come on, if not i will change the brake light switch and take it from there.....the car was MOT'd less then a month ago by the previous owner....about the window not dropping down and up, i have seen in some forums to do a window reset.....which i tried but dont know if it worked? is there any way of knowing if the windows have reset? also how do you reset the windows, every instruction i need is a bit different but similar? THANKS AGAIN
