Is this 'par for the course' in terms of wheel arch rust? Hopefully it will be covered by the rust warranty when I take it to the dealer in August (6 months ownership).

It is primarily rear arches, but there is also a lesser issue with the front.

This is the only rust bubbling on the outside of the arch - the rear drivers side.

I've got traces of it in my rear arches too, fortunatley it hasn't erupted onto the skin of the rear panel yet. The rear arch lip is a bit of a mud-trap on the 208 too which doesn't help. I'm waiting for a few dry days off work when I'm going to rub it all off, treat it, prime it and hamerite/waxoyl underseal it and I'll stuff the inside lip full of waxoyl underseal too.

As I mentioned when I was looking for a CLK a couple of months ago, the newer 208s seem to suffer from rust worse than the older ones, a bit like the 202s.

hamerite/waxoyl :(

POR15 :) www.frost.co.uk

POR15 makes Hammerite look like emulsion. Used it for years on my TVR's (Chassis are notorious for rust)
Just DON'T get any on your skin - cause it won't come off!! and it will never come off the wheel arch :)

Looks exactly like my one. I got it done by MB under goodwill last year (car is 9 years old) for nothing, the subcobtractor they use did a great job, it was quite extensive.

I know this has been asked before but being lazy and not searching, does the car need to have a Full MBSH for this to be covered?

I've got a very tiny bit on one of my arches.

I can only comment on what I have been told by my local dealer in regard to my CLK55.

Up to 8 years old MB will cover any rust (not caused by damage or stonechips) with 'reasonable' service history. Does not have to be fully MB. You must though have owned the car 6 months (there is a way around this but I won't post on here)

From 8 to 30 years MB will cover any rust but full perfect MB history is a must - and even then they will look for any reason to get out of it.

My CLK has a tiny bit on the inside of the offside rear wheelarch. MB have confirmed they will fix - my car is 7 and half years old. The paint at the edge of the inside lip is where the corrosion starts, its very easily breached here. You can see on Pete's pictures how the corrosion has started at the edge and worked its way in all the way round the lip. On the three other wings which are perfect I have painted the inside edge in silver POR15 to prevent it ever starting here but the one where it has I will leave as is until MB have fixed and then do the same
