[W208] Damage to blower control from flooding

Hi folks,

Water had been trickling into my passenger footwell after heavy rain or carwashes for the past few months. I had assumed that something had corroded around the window seal or behind the front wheel, but from reading the forums it appears that the problem is most likely a blockage in the drain at the air intake. I plan to clean the blockage out this evening.

Anyway, the water appears to have damaged the blower control, because the blower will not switch off (even when they keys are removed from the ignition). I've had to resort to removing the blower fuse when the car is not in use, so I'd like to have a go at fixing this ASAP. Does anyone have any pointers on how to do this? Any do's/don'ts? I've seen illustrated howtos for other models posted on this forum, but am a complete novice and would really appreciate some help. :)

Cheers.

After the cover has been taken off on the under dash panel of the passenger footwell; its only a few torx screws that need undoing. It is straight forward.

Wait until the heater air intake box is dry, then the fault may go away, though the regulator may have gone short circuit.

On the 4 pin encapsulated ones just put a Ω across any two pin and look for S/C

Thanks for the quick replies, guys. One thing I forgot to ask - is there any possibility that the fault could also be related to the dashboard control for the blower? I was cleaning the dash/console yesterday and may have been a bit over-enthusiastic with the 'dampness' of the cloth.

Any thing is possible, one will not know until the motor section has dried out

I got the blockage cleared with a wire coathanger, drained the excess water from the blower compartment, dried everything off and let some fresh air circulate around the compartment for an hour or two. Everything worked fine when I put it back together.

Thanks again!
