Can anyone tell me what sort of fixing is used to secure the shield to the bottom of the car? One end has come loose and it clearly isn't just a case of bolting it back!

I have just remembered the search button!

They are strangely shaped nuts that holds the heat shield on. They T shaped, with an small 8mm head. The nut fits on to a thread protruding from the bottom of the car. I had to take one off last week to put a big washer under it.. The head rounded as soon as I got a socket on to it. I got it off in the end with mole grips. I could not find a suitable replacement nut, it has a very coarse thread. I managed to fit a wingnut, which seems to hold tight until I get the correct one. I noticed another part of the heat shield coming loose, but it is behind the rear box, so will be more of a bother to replace. The aluminium of the heat shield seems to disintegrate under the flat head of the retaining nut.

Great, cheers. I will get it up in the air and attack it tomorrow.
