I've been reading through this forum ever since I decided to get a CLK. Fortunately, I found one that bought last week, a 240 Avantgarde, which I'm absolutely loving...except for one minor issue: the in-dash retractable cup holder won't push back [emoji22]. I've tried carefully pushing and pulling but it no worky (as my old dad used to say)! Any ideas, anybody? All advice gratefully received.

The cupholder is encased within its own unit, if you have something blocking its runners, its a huge job to remove half the dash to free it. (ive fit one of those cupholders in the past)

The cup holder is useless anyway. It holds a small bottle if you put it in at an angle but a cup or a can doesn't fit.

Bummer. Thanks, KillerHERTZ. perhaps I'll have a peak in there with a torch and see if there's something in there. Assuming I can push it back, o may just superglue it **** to stop it happening again!

Where are you located?

I'm based in Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire. I'll need to find a local independent specialist at some stage.

Sounds like you didn't have it fitted, it looks like this: (check the link in my SIG , I retro fitted it):

Ah ok, if you were nearer I would have taken a look. I've removed a W209 dash many times now

Thanks for the offer anyway. I may try sticking a small vacuum nozzle in there to see if I can suck out whatever's blocking it up [emoji35].

There are a couple of types of these push-out drawers.

Mine is too small to take a cup either. (I called mine a cup holder earlier for ease of identification)

I believe it was an option when the car was made. You can retro fit a cup holder, if you can find one.

But as KillerHERTZ says it is quite a big job to remove it, but not impossible.

Thanks for the photos, Coruscator. I'll have a go when I'm feeling a bit more patient lest I break it out of frustration!

Am i right in thinking 1 is a cup holder and the other is just a coin/trinket holder?

Tony.

No worries.

There is an order of sequence of parts that need to be removed to allow you to get to it.

Which must be followed or something can be broken, unfortunately there aren't really any shortcuts. :0(

Come back here when you do decide to have a crack at.

There are loads of really helpful people on here who could help you better
than I ever could.

I'm replying because they really helped me and I'd like to 'give something back'. :0)

Excellent. Thanks very much for all your help.

Ha you got me thinking now, if I should get one for my car, while its already out.

I'll race you to find one, ha.

Found this on ebay but as you can see its been sold.

It gives you an Idea of what the cup holder type looks like. Dont worry if the colour
doesn't match your interior, you can remove these bits and replace them with the
matching ones you already have.

Thanks for all your advice, guys. In the end, I gave it s slightly more than gentle shove and it closed. It now doesn't open...but then I'd have never used it anyway so no great loss!

Sorry to bump an old thread, but is the cup holder worth the effort?

Our car doesn't have one, but the boss lady would like somewhere to put her drink when we're travelling. - I have told her that there was an option for a cup holder, but it requires disassembling the dashboard to install it.

In some respects I hope the answer is "no", but I don't think it will stop her trying to take a travel mug in the car... so expect a post from me about the best way to get coffee out of the seat and carpet.
