W209 CLK Gearbox Control Unit - Help!

Something is not right here (an obvious statement!).

I would contact MB Guildford directly to verify the parts fitted are correct and properly installed.

Other questions I would ask:
Did your indy replace the 'electroplate' (RS CTRR. ELECTROHYD.) as well as the valve chest (VALVE GEAR/CTRR. UNIT ELECTROHYD.)
Did your indy source the parts from Mercedes?
Have you been given the part numbers?
What was the stored fault code?
Was the stored fault code cleared before the software update was applied?

Answers to some or all of these questions should help an experienced technician (a la Olly) to give you guidance.
 
The plate and valve chest on mine is all in one, so the whole thing's been replaced, and yes it was a MB part. I don't know the other answers. Mines the early 7g trans.
 
If the valve chest (including plate) was supplied by MB, then, as Olly stated above, it must be down to MB Guildford to code the unit to the car.

I would still want to contact MB Guildford directly to hear what they have to say about the issue.

I guess what needs to be found out is whether MB Guildford have the right level of competance for the task or whether your indy has somehow corrupted your car's control system.
 
Thanks again, it's mostly above my head and I can't really interrogate MB Guildford as I don't understand anything about coding/systems and I'm afraid of aggravating them and making matters worse. They have confirmed so far that there's nothing wrong with the car or the new part, so they assume it's Star software related and they are waiting for head office bods to resolve it. I guess all I can do is wait :(
 
The confirmation that your car and the valve chest etc are OK is good news.

I think you are right to give them more time.

Maybe Olly will come back with any knowledge of coding irregularities, or you could try giving Steve Garlick in Tonbridge a ring to see if has come across this type of issue before. (Stevensons Independent Mercedes Specialists) 01622 410089.

Until Dec? 2014 he was a Diagnostic Technician at MB Tonbridge and, as others on this forum have said, he used to get all the problem cars other technicians couldn't fathom.

He replaced the electroplate on my VGS2 CLK and was updating an 09 SLK gearbox software when mine had its last service.
 
Update:

MB Guildford have been working very hard behind the scene it seems and got authorisation to change the plate/valve chest for a new one from HQ but still not possible to code it. So HQ Germany are going to try to code it remotely - fingers crossed.

My Indy called today to explain and it seems I may have underestimated the amount of work everyone is putting into this, so all I can do is wait.

I guess my nerves are getting the better of me as my pockets aren't very deep and I have a habit of expecting the worst :)
 
Update:

MB Germany plugged in remotely and spent a day on it, came to the conclusion that the ignition switch is faulty even though it's not showing a fault, so that's another £600 to change that plus I'm being charged the 5 hours diagnostics as well. My Indy has been brilliant recently, more details when it's resolved. In a way I hope it is this so I can draw a line under it :)
 
I think there's goodwill from everyone involved at the moment, no winners involved in this repair!
 
Got it back today! New ignition switch did the trick. All a bit financially painful but it's nice to be back in a car again :) Big thanks to my Indy and MB Guildford for preserving and assisting with the financial pain. Thanks to Olly for his advice and the forum for being awesome. Phew.
