W209 CLK steering adjustment issue

Hi Everyone,
Whilst working on the CLK to replace the stepper motor (and therefore centre and drivers side all removed), the steering adjustment for moving the steering columb up or down seems to have stopped working.
I can move the adjustment back and forth but up and down seems to have stopped. I can hear the relay click in the door (?) but I don't hear the motor and it doesn't run.
I assumed initially it was because I had so much disconnected that I must therefore have disconnected something which was running the motor but I moved it down to remove the instrument cluster, and the only thing to be removed after that was the lower dash trim (housing the ignition module, light cluster etc). With all of that reconnected the up/down still isn't working and I think I need to move it down to refit the Instrument cluster.
Has anyone any ideas - have I wrecked something, sheered the legendary plastic parts in the steering? (however I've got no motor noise where as most people who suffer this do).

I've read that perhaps it needs to be 're-learnt' or visit a dealer? I've not disconnected the battery in the dash works.
Fuses seem OK but I've not double checked.

Any suggestions would be appreciated - I'm stumped and uber worried I've broken some other piece of nylon plastic :dk:

Hi,
Had a similar issue recently with my CLS but with my forward/back, up/down seat motors, you could hear something clicking, but they refused to work.
Mine showed up hall sensor faulty and just required recalibration on STAR, yours sounds like the same issue as you can hear a clicking noise, but do ensure all the plugs, sockets you have disconnected/reconnected are fully pushed home and no pins/sockets have pushed out the back of their respective housing first.

Ah ha found the problem the black connector was ever so slightly loose thanks for your help andy
