Any ideas on this one guys ?!?

After 100 miles on the motorway I was driving along an A-road today and after pressing the accelerator the car hesitated and then the revs bounced back again. For the next mile it was continually cutting out and not maintaining a very good idle at all. Restarting the car was pretty tricky and the revs were all over the place once it did get going. This happened last week very briefly which I put down to low fuel, but I had over 1/4 tank today ?!?

I've got it on the drive now and although the idle is a bit better it still sounds like it is bouncing/stalling.

The car is a W209 320 petrol.

Thanks in advance.

Very difficult to say. Get it on A Star asap.

It wont start at all now :(

I can hear the fuel pump (I think), engine turns over but wont fire into life.

I guess that doesn't narrow it down much does it...

Oh, and there are no fault lights or anything displayed on the dash.

Only thing I could see under the bonnet is a wire that used to go to what looks like the air con compressor (right hand side) from an earthing point being severed, although I guess that has nothing to do with it.

OK - Just to update as there is nothing more annoying than an unresolved thread!

Turned out it was the Crank Position Sensor. The boys at MB-Tech in Warrington sorted it and everything is working fine now :)

Glad to hear that! :)
