W209 - Replaced Slip Ring, Now Steering Controls Do Not Work?

I received an "ESP Visit Workshop" error and a STAR diagnosis showed the Slip Ring/Contact Spiral as faulty. I purchased a used spiral (from a W209 being broken) and fitted it.

ESP now works, however none of the steering wheel controls or the horn work.

The part number of the old slip ring was 169 464 06 18 and the replacement slip ring is a newer revision with a part number 169 464 08 18. Merc confirmed that this is compatible and preferable to the existing slip ring part number.

Is there a 'reset' of some sort which I do not know about as to why none of the steering controls or horn now work? Or could the slip ring be faulty?

Turns out the wires on the black plug were connected up the wrong way around by the breaker who supplied the unit to me. All sorted now .
